10. do you have a guilty fav?

I did really dig deep in my brain because while it's true, it is a little boring to just say I Stopped Feeling Guilty For The Things That I Like, and I think the closest I can get is Behooved because honestly. I didn't expect to have as much fun as I did.

19. most disliked popular books?

Currently? I'm so tired of seeing Dungeon Crawler Carl everywhere lmao Though I did convince three friends to read it so we could all complain together so we might all book club it for evil.

20. what are things you look for in a book?

FUN! I WANT THINGS TO BE FUN! I like a good hook, I like to be intrigued. I do not want romance getting in the way of plot, but if it's well integrated I won't complain too much. I am also very intimidated by Very Long Books, so I do tend to also look and see if a book is less than 700 pages, but if it hits all my other buttons I will still give it a shot.

Nowadays, majoring in Biology doesn’t guarantee a job anymore than majoring in English. I mean... what exactly would you do with a Biology? Isn’t that just a stepping stone for grad school?

But the thing is, it’s not about the major, it’s about the skills that you will learn.

So the big question is: what do you want to do? And will being an English major provide you with the skills you need to get that job?

If not, English may not be for you. OR, use minors or double majors or specialities, to pad your resume until you do.

I put it off reading it until last year because of how many people warned me it was a disappointment, so I went in with rock bottom expectations and found I actually enjoyed it. I don't think it's as bad as everyone says as much as it's just not to everyone's tastes. It is a slow atmospheric meandering story that only works if you are in the mood for that sort of thing. It goes nowhere slowly. It is a book about the journey, not the destination. I get why people don't like it but there are *far* worse books out there.

this is exactly it! I know my tastes and while atmospheric isn't my go to, I do enjoy it on occasion! but god do i have to be in the mood for it lol Like I could tell Gallant was more about the vibes than the story, and that's not exactly bad, but together with an annoying ending and no reason for people to keep the main character in the dark (other than to keep thing ~mysterious~ ) I'm like. What's the point here lol

I've been having the exact same issue with mine, nothing's been helping.

Yeah, that was me at first. Pushing through it really helped. Went better from there.

08: What’s the best piece of feedback you’ve ever gotten?

I had a professor in college who was notoriously picky and hard to please, Dr. DeRosset. She was an amazing writer and a great teacher, and getting an A on a paper in her class felt like the biggest accomplishment. I still have the annotated copies of the writing journal that she had us keep during the semester, and the note that she wrote at the end encouraging me to keep writing means the world to me.

18: How do you feel about love triangles?

I’m not a huge fan of them, but they’re not Satan’s Own Plot Device either. I think they tend to be a pretty lazy/cheap way to add tension to a story, but it’s possible to write them in a way that feels natural and interesting.

28: Which do you find hardest: the beginning, the middle, or the end?

The middle, for sure. Often I have the beginning and end clearly in my mind before I start writing, but getting from point A to point B can be a bit of a tricky proposition haha.

38: What’s your current WIP?

I’ve got a couple of things in writing limbo right now, but I guess my Work in Progress would be the tiny stories that I’ve been writing for the last couple of years. I still have a couple of prompts left. I’ve also got 3 novels on the back burner and an idea for another itching to get out, so I should probably get into editing/rewriting mode if I know what’s good for me!

48: If you could write the next book of any series, which one would it be, and what would you make the book about?

I’ve never been very interested in adding to another writer’s canon. Fanfiction is fun, but actually writing the next book of someone else’s series isn’t something I can see myself doing. I’d rather just tell my own stories and let others tell theirs on their own terms.
