I know I haven‘t updated this blog in months and remember that the last post was made when I was sick? Well guess what…I‘m sick again, which means I actually have time to write an update because there‘s not much else that I can do right now.
Let me tell you, I knew before I started this program that it won‘t be easy and that there will be rough times when being so far away from home feels difficult…christmas being one of them. I barely have time to process what‘s happening. Work is really exhausting right now especially during the holiday season. It seems that we are not enough people, which leads to working 6 days in a row and only getting one day off (let me tell you, this is no fun and it‘s really wearing you down). Guests tend to have less patience, many seem rushed and some can get very impolite (which doesn‘t mean there are no nice guests!).
I‘m feeling a little guilty for every day that I have to call in sick but on the other hand I have look after myself first, so I can eventually get back to work. I really hope everything is gonna slow down after December.
Let me tell you what has happened in those months of silence (even though I don‘t think I‘ll actually think of everything because it‘s been so much). One of our roommates moved out and another lovely girl moved in. We did not really have the chance to travel a lot but we managed to visit St. Augustine which is a lovely little city. We had some great food and amazing waffles and milkshakes there. We also ate at Scarlett o‘Hara‘s. The food was great, I miss Scarlett o‘Hara‘s a little and I would absolutely love to go again. Our server was really cool. I had the very first key lime pie in my life and I tried red ale for the first time. We also went on a ghosts and gravestones tour on Halloween.
Hanna and I also went to Mickey‘s Not So Scary Halloween Party as well as Mickey‘s Very Merry Christmas Party. We got ourselves rosegold Minnie ears, had a lot of pizza, survived our first Hurricane here (see you never Irma!), went to the parks, spent some lazy time in Blizzard Beach (which I - against my own expectations - actually prefer to Typhoon Lagoon) and one month ago we switched from outdoor life to server life after we passed our assessment there.
So you see lots of things have happened and I don‘t regret my decision to spend my year here at Disney and working for the mouse. It‘s not always easy here but it will be worth it. But what I can definitely say too: I miss home, I miss my family and my friends and I am so glad that this year will come to an end eventually and I can go back home with lots of memories, knowing it was a year of personal growth. I‘m also very grateful for what‘s waiting at home for me.
