Magical Montalcino! Culinary Traveling Adventures, October 2022! Montalcino is a beautiful medieval hilltop town and comune in the province of Siena, Tuscany. The history of Montalcino dates back to the Etruscan and Roman periods. It was mentioned for the first time on December 29, 814. Due to its strategic position, Montalcino became a stronghold pertaining to the Republic of Siena, which fortified it with mighty walls. Montalcino is known for its stunning panoramic view of the beautiful Asso, Orcia and Ombrone valleys, dotted with silvery olive orchards, vineyards, fields, and villages, with the best vantage point being the 14th century 'Fortezza.' The Fortress at Montalcino was first build in 1361 in the shape of a pentagon (five sides). The town’s fame derives from its production of one of Italy’s finest red wines known as Brunello di Montalcino, which made its appearance in the middle of the 19th century. There is so much to discover in this magical, medieval Tuscan city. We are so excited to bring our guests to one of our favorite restaurants in the town center to taste local culinary specialities, along with a view that will take your breath away. We decided to spend our day yesterday in charming Montalcino - below are a few pictures.
