Why shouldn’t Cuba be used as an example of socialism?

(I’m not saying I do)

To put it simply.

People often romanticize socialism.

And as such treat Cuba as this Socialist ideal. (I won’t name names but certain individuals that are prominent have done this and I refuse to support them).

Cuba is an AUTHORITARIAN COMMUNIST country. Saying it is just a socialist country does not accurately depict it and fools uninformed individuals what is actually happening.

That is what I am specifically referring to. Treating Cuba government as a good example in ANY regard.

WHY THE F*** IS CUBA'S SUFFERING A DIVISIVE POLITICAL ISSUE?! THIS SHOULDNT BE HARD!

Have the US blockades done damage to Cuba? Yes.

Should the blockades be ended? Yes

Will ending those Blockades result in the end the horrible atrocities commited on MY PEOPLE?! Not for one second! Because IT isnt the reason why its happening. This has been happening for so much longer than people realize.

Cuba has been suffering for so long and ALL opposition has been BEATEN down, disappeared and silenced. Now the regime is weakening, Cubans are rising up. Cuba wants to be free of this regime. Any cuban that has FLED from Cuba, that lived in cuba, they know the true horrors there.

Gale in these hard and dangerous times I wish for you and your family to stay safe and stay strong. I also wish you the best of luck that justice will prevail and the corrupt regime will fall one day.

I'm from Poland and while I personally am to young to really remember those times, my countries post WWII history also had dark times, where protesters, workers and generally innocent people got shot at in the streets, where people were arrested and beaten just for handling out or even just carrying political pamphlets. We manage to beat the regime and live now in a democratic country. And even if the old regime still throws it's shadow even now, the fight was worth it and is always worth it despite the dangers. 

So once again stay safe and the best of luck for you, your family and your country.

I am blessed that me and most of my family are out of Cuba. But sadly some of our relatives still remain and have been suffering since the regime took hold.

I want them to be free and I want to be able to visit my home once it is free from the tyrannical regime.
