I’ve been learning digital painting (and other stuff) on this neat site CTRL+Paint and it’s been really fun. A lot of the stuff is simple once you have someone to just explain it to you. The videos are short and easy to follow, and better yet--They’re all free! I recommend it for anyone who needs a good learning site but doesn’t have the time for hour long videos :)
anyway, after doing practice exercises, I wanted to actually draw something. A simple greyscale Lima bust will do!
Jittery custom brush + brush blending modes are MAGICAL

2017 August 15, 16, 17 - Ctrl+Paint Hybrid Gesture Drawings
A self-study series of drawings, using the Charcoal (Side) brush tool in Adobe Photoshop. To create a series of gesture drawings based on a given set of pictures, such as still-life, people in motion, and marine life.
The theme of marine life was something I attempted to do based on a theme set by ARTivity, a local art activity group.
The people-in-motion series of drawings is meant to draw only the body motions and gestures using the thickest brush tool without regards to details, because getting too involved in details will cause to lose focus in drawing the body motions.
The last picture is a still-life also using the charcoal brush tool. But I was running out of time, so I did this single picture for practice.

Recently tried out some of the ctrlPaint.com premium content for practice. I find that drawing with scratchy lines makes artwork feel terrible, so I sought to rework those fundamentals by improving my line quality and brush strokes. I am liking the custom charcoal and Kyle T. Webster Illustration brushes in Photoshop so far!
