Now let’s say you’re currently a college student enrolled in a program and still have some time left before graduation. One of the most significant factors that impact a college student’s success is the experience that the student receives in their field while in school aside from discovering more about yourself as an individual.

Experience from internships and professional student organizations is especially imperative for those of the liberal arts majors where jobs are not rapidly expanding as much as programs in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and math according to an article by the Chicago Tribune. Obtaining work experiences from internships within one’s field is crucial to success. These experiences allow students to interact with others in an environment similar to what they would be in the workforce. In a study conducted by Gary Blau and his colleagues, their research showed how college students who participated in internships were more likely to obtain a job in their field after college graduation. Some have found that by working full time in college that they were able to still find employment within their area of study; however, the occupation obtained after graduation is not within the individual’s area of study. Students do claim that they do need a source of income while in school which is reasonable. That’s why paid internships are available in conjunction with the student organizations. The more credits that a student has in his or her area of study only increases the student’s chances of getting the ideal internship.

By participating in internships or professional student organizations college students are able to build upon credible experiences that employers look for.
