I like to give characters hobbies, like I have a Call of Cthulhu character who's a mechanic but it kinda felt like 'being a mechanic' was her whole life as I was figuring her out and I also wanted her to be kinda good at combat cause I do like combat encounters. Settled on baseball since it would justify skills for thrown and improvised weapons. As I was conceptualizing her more I decided that she didn't go to school since her family immigrated when she was 12 and it built a contrast with her younger sister who was born in America as her parents' assimilation-golden-child, so playing on like a neighbourhood baseball team as a teenager was her big social experience.
