Last night (09/05/2016) Greater Manchester Police (GMP) and 800 volunteers conducted a major simulated terrorist attack on a very popular large indoor shopping centre in Manchester, England. Beginning the simulation an officer playing the role of a suicide bomber (see top) shouted "Allah Ahkbar”, before a dummy charge was detonated.
This morning a Twitter user asked for an explanation from GMP of why the ‘terrorist’ was Muslim and the said phrase used. In the wake of that gaining momentum, GMP have now issued an apology. I cannot be the only person who thinks the phrase was entirely appropriate in an exercise conducted for fast responders to train their skills - realistically - for a Daesh conducted attack...?
