The Batfam Trap
Chapter 8
Jason sat silently. Even over the TV, he could hear the shower turn on. Good. Jason slipped off the bed. He leaned his weight to the balls of his feet and slowly inched over the floor. He would stupid to think that his mother couldn’t sense every move he made, whether or not the shower and TV masked his noise. Damian gave a soft cry. In half a heartbeat, Jason was by his brother’s cradle. Jason picked the baby up, and cooed to him. Damian fell quite.
“You never did meet Dad.” Jason whispered.
Damian blew a bubble, and gave an unsophisticated giggle. Jason allowed a small smile to slip forth.
“We’ll fix this.” He promised his little brother. “I’ll fix this.”
“Jason.” Talia called. She stepped out of the hotel bathroom. “You forgot to bring home the candles.”
He muffled a groan. “I’m sorry, Mother.”
“It can be mended.” She stated, gently trailing a hand through his hair.
“I’ll fix it immediately.” Jason replied, bowing his head.
“Good.” She gave a soft purr like sound. “And, Abni, be back before dinner.”
“Yes, Mother.”
Talia ushered him out the door. Jason checked the door. The lock held behind him. He moved quickly down the hallway. Jason glanced around, then slipped into the stairwell. He whipped out his phone. It rang for a moment, before the other end picked up.
“What’s up, Jay?” Dick asked.
“Do you have the note ready?” Jason bounded down the stairs.
“Yeah.” His brother’s voice wavered.
“Can you sneak out?”
“Yes.” Dick answered. Jason heard a zipper on the other end of the phone. “I’m packed and ready.”
“You better not screw this up.” Jason muttered.
“You’re one to talk. Where are we meeting?”
“The mall, Bath and Body Works. Mother sent me on more errands.”
“Mom?” Dick whispered.
Jason nodded, before realizing her brother couldn’t see him. “Yeah, just make sure to address her as ‘Mother’, or she’ll catch on fast.”
“Got it.” Dick answered chirpily, if that was even a word.
Jason sighed as he hung up. If either of their parents found out about this, they would have their heads.
