SPACE CAMP [CT] is so unreal and I'm so happy I got to see them monday for the first time
You know, I’m still myself when I’ve been drinking. Speakers are blown. Hasn’t this shown the side of me called ‘reckless’? Its alright to stay sexless. Exes will be excess. The next you’ll be is breathless.

Chris Nicastro at the Heirloom Arts Theatre

------------------------------------------------------------------------
As much as Chris Nicastro joked about how terrible his debut album- The 5:00 News- was, the two remaining copies that sat on the merch table ("FINAL PRESSING!!!") served an important purpose: they were reminders of just how much Chris has matured as a musician since the early days of his first shows at the Space. It's been a year and a month since his last show, but the Chris Nicastro that played tonight was a new and better artist; and everything from his music to his stage presence to his quality of performance and playing reinforced just how far he has come.
Onstage, it was just Chris and his guitar playing to a small-ish crowd comprised largely of friends from college. His music was strong, though, and he started with the powerful "Phonies" off of his most recent EP: Autumn Breeze. Unlike previous shows, however, Chris looked much more comfortable: he moved around and yelled and did everything he could to rile up the few college students in the front who cheered and sang along. Other notable songs were "Mellow Anxiety" and his cover of also-CT-local Brian Stankus' "Penance."
Although the set became a bit muddled near the end, the finale of his newest single ("860," available on his bandcamp) and the musical shoutouts to some of the bands that have influenced him (e.g. shouting "You'll always be a loser" with the crowd) left off on an incredibly strong note.
It is also worth mentioning that Chris brought a crate of bananas with his name written on each and every one to hand out for free as a form of "perishable merch."Â
Chris Nicastro is scheduled to play again at The Space on Thursday, November 29th.
I have been just super bummed out lately about the CT music scene. I was outcasted out of my band in a super non-direct shitty way..and so I started The Anarchist Pizza Society about a year ago and have given all my attention and effort towards it. I love TAPS, I have never been more proud of the music I have written over the past year, and getting to record and create all of it with my best friend is the best. It just sucks that we create all of this music, and spend all of this time putting it out there only to find that people from every other place except Connecticut give a shit. Don't get me wrong, I love and really appreciate all of the letters, and feedback we have gotten from people from all over(Canada, the UK, midwest, South, etc). But what bums me out is getting support from everywhere except our own scene. Playing shows where there are 60+ people there, but when we go to play only 5 stay and watch is really discouraging. It is just a really shitty feeling to have supported friend's bands for years at every show and yet we cannot even book more than one show every 6 months let alone get people to stay for our set.
Connecticut...you suck.
oh also...Kayla doesnt act like a show off or elitist..fuck off nerds!
