How about “You can hold my hand.” + "Cozy" for DaltonStokes?? Pretty please?? 🥺💜💙💜💙💜💙💜💙💜💙
[idk if you remember that one daltonstokes fic I wrote where Jack was dealing with an insomniac post Grave Danger Nick but...this one is very loosely related to that one...esp at the end.]
Anxiety is not something that's unknown to Jack Dalton.
He's done the leg bounce, he's arrived way too early to social events, he's stammered over words and done irrational, stupid things just because something in his brain told him if he didn't do it, something terrible would happen to him, or worse—others.
And over the years he's found ways to cope, found ways to not view his anxieties as a weakness, but rather, a strength. He's able to identify the obstacles and either prevent them, or deal with them as they arise. He's learned to channel that nervous energy into something else, something more productive.
Nick Stokes, however, seems to deny that there's anything even remotely resembling it quaking through his body and rattling his mind.
Yet here he is, pacing back and forth between locked doors and closed windows, a gun tightly gripped in his hand, sweat pouring from his forehead, and a thin line of drool down his chin from all his barking at the ghost that still stalks him.
"Nicky, come back to bed," Jack yawns, placing a hand over Nick's shoulder which startles him so bad that he whips around, nearly slapping Jack in the face with the muzzle of the gun. "And put that damn thing away!"
Jack knocks the gun down and swipes it expertly out of Nick's hands, twisting his arm behind him and nearly shoving him back into the bedroom.
"We're not safe. He's going to come in, he's probably already in, he's gonna crash through on the green tea..." Nick's muttering quickly, still lost in a waking nightmare.
"Shh, shh, shhhhhhhh, Stokes, c'mon...wake up..." Jack gently closes the door and watches as Nick stumbles blindly around the room, tripping and falling headfirst onto the bed. Jack sighs and leaps into the bed, trying to scoop Nick up to cuddle with an admittedly harsh grip—
"NO!" he screams wildly, tangling himself up in sheets. "NO! GET OFF ME!"
Nick punches Jack square in the face before launching backwards off of the bed, onto the floor and when he lifts his head he meets the bottom of the bedframe, into another level of nightmare hell.
Jack cuts through the broken song and finally gets a hold of his lover, who finally wakes up enough to realize that he’s not where he thinks he is, and in fact, somewhere much better.
“J-Jack?” he stammers, immediately reaching for the large imprinted bruise from his own fist. “Oh, God, did I—?”
“You didn’t do nothin, baby,” Jack coos at him, lifting him up and de-tangling Nick from the twisted sheets. “Just had a nightmare, is all, and I know you know that we’re both used to them, okay?”
“Ye-yeah, but, I—” Nick follows Jack as he comes around the other side of the bed and hops in, leaning casually against the headboard.
“Didn’t meanta do what you accidentally did. It’s okay,” Jack asserts, pulling Nick close to him, pressing his head against his chest. “See? Ticker’s still tickin’, you didn’t kill me.”
Nick tries to suppress his laugh, and a weary hand reaches up before falling back down.
“Hey, you wanna hold onto somethin’? Here, you can hold my hand,” Jack offers an extended hand, while he uses the other one to cover their half-naked bodies in a comforter. “Getcha all nice and cozy, now, there we go.”
Nick’s still sniffling, even once they settle into this cozy cuddle. Jack wipes the tears from Nick’s eyes but they don’t stop coming, so he runs his fingers through Nick’s long strands of shaggy moptop-esque hair that Jack is still laughing about though he thinks it’s also boyishly cute and reminds him of the bowl cut his mother once gave him.
All the while Nick’s crying, because all of this seems too good to be true.
Especially since Jack left him six months ago.

"I never knew the desert could be so beautiful at night."
As Nick pitches their tent, Jack pokes a few more sticks into their modest fire, though his attention is to the clear skies above.
"Thought you spent a few years in a sandbox? I reckon you'd know all about the rhythm of the night out in a landscape like this," Nick asks with a teasing smile, noticeably watching as Jack leans closer to the fire, rubbing his hands together for warmth.
"Yeah, but the nights weren't...peaceful like this. If I wasn't attempting some sleep, I was keepin' watch over my boys."
With one final stake driven into the ground, Nick comes up behind Jack, wrapping himself around him.
"And who kept watch over you?" Nick whispers into his ear.
"Nobody like you, that's for sure. Best watchdog I've ever had," Jack wraps his hand around Nick's wrist, pulling him down further and guiding him to sit next to him.
"What kinda rhythm is this?" Jack speaks up after some silence, his face screwed up in confusion.
"Hmm?" Nick asks with equal puzzlement.
"You said I'd know all about the...'rhythm of the night?'" Don't see much dancin' out here, 'less there's something you ain't telling me."
"Like what?" Nick laughs absurdly.
"I don't know! A fuckin' flash mob, or something? I wouldn't put it past you to do something to troll me like that."
"Troll you?"
"Yeah, isn't that what the kids call it these days?"
"Jack, I'm older than you."
"Don't mean you aren't hip with the times. Sanders always seems to know what's going on in the club."
"Speak for yourself, you're the one who babysits a bunch of college-aged spies for a living."
"Yeah, yeah," Jack waves off.
"But what I mean about the rhythm of the night is just...the gentle sounds of solitude in an endless sea of sand. The howls of coyotes, the restless tumbleweeds. The wind—" Nick waves a hand in the air, as if to motion, "—breathing through you...it's a slow, smooth rhythm. Intimate, almost."
"Well, it's also a bit of a cold one, Robert Frost. Not to say your delicate words that sound like they're out of a poem don't gimme some warmth but...my bones are shaking. Can't even feel my damn fingers."
"You can hold my hand," Nick offers, lacing his fingers together with Jack's that are indeed a little cold. "And, here—"
He leans to the side, pulling out the rolled thermal blanket he had on top of his backpack, unfurling it with one hand and draping it over their backs to become a shared cloak. Jack pulls in his side and Nick leans his head on his shoulder.
"I get it now," Jack's voice crackles just like the weakening fire as the moon rises higher above them, bathing them in a soft glow. "I like this song."
"I knew you would," Nick smiles, and pulls his side of the blanket in tighter, covering their clasped hands though he forgot just how cold it could be, given that all his warmth comes from the draw of Jack Dalton beside him.
Bearded, smooth faced, and stubbly George are all important but what about the most important one of all, moustache George?? 😈💜
oh, ohhhh my dear delta, how could I possibly forget the pinnacle of george eads facial hair?

OOOOHHHH I'll have to read all of them when I get home but one caught my eye, {B taking care of A when they are sick. } For DaltonStokes? 💜💙💜💙
[i know the last time I wrote a sickfic, I made Nick sick so it’s Jack’s turn!]
Nick has known Jack for quite some time now, has seen him on his best days and his worst, but not quite at his weakest.
It was an odd sight to behold; the beefed up chiseled action hero with skin that’s usually flushed with extraordinary adrenaline and a little bit of testosterone that gives him the authoritative edge that would not be dissimilar to some sort of commander—the skin is now pale, ghostly in comparison to the dark circles tracing his eyes and the light green tint radiating in his cheeks.
His hair, typically styled into a soft fauxhawk or lightly buzzed to match a growing beard, is flattened with cold sweat. His normally tight jeans and tucked in metal band t-shirt traded for a pair of sweatpants and a stained sleeveless top that he claims makes him feel like his idol, John McClane and because of that, he also decides to go barefoot.
Not that he’s going anywhere at all, having been sentenced to the comfiest part of Nick’s couch though he first tried for the bedroom, downplaying the sickness for the sake of cuddles, and more.
“No way, dude, I just got over my own cold, I ain’t catching whatever bug is eating you alive,” Nick had scolded Jack as he steered him towards the couch.
“After all these years I still don’t get why you of all people use that phrase,” Jack mumbled before he fell into a stuffed silence.
And that was perhaps the most adorably humorous, but also the most disturbing part of all: Jack remained mostly silent as he fell into a sedated trance. He struggled to keep his eyes open, his head up. He didn’t fight as Nick tucked his mother’s quilt around him, though whimpered when Nick left his view to cook up some soup.
“It’s okay, my darling Dalton, just hang tight now, alright?” Nick whispered softly into his ear, pecking the top of his forehead before he did a cooking speedrun; slicing vegetables with one hand and lighting the stove with another, pouring the broth and vegetables in the pot and stirring with the same churning that squeezed Jack’s lungs. Harsh coughs made Nick wince, the hacking sounding like borderline choking made even worse by a congested nose that would not seem to empty into the already three discarded tissue boxes that had slipped onto the floor.
As he let the soup simmer, he rounded the couch and plopped himself down next to Jack, pulling him in and resting his head onto Nick’s lap.
He put his hand to Jack’s forehead, which felt almost as hot as the pot on the stove.
“You’re burning up, baby,” Nick began stroking Jack’s hair as he shivered.
“Don’t feel like it,” Jack grunted, though the words were low and almost unintelligible under the hoarse rasp.
“Gotta say it’s a bit of a nice change up, seeing you so weak and helpless for me to take care of you,” Nick tried to crack a smile but his words were lost to the sickness that slipped Jack in and out of sleep, unable to even stay awake for the Bruce Willis marathon Nick had put on to keep him occupied.
After a few moments, Nick got up to check on the soup and only just heard Jack wheeze before he crouched next to the couch to hear him better.
“What was that, my love?”
“‘Least you don’t have Rick threatening to whoop your ass if you don’t make me feel better,” a nasally, snarky response that made Nick chuckle under his breath.
“You know he just means well,” Nick soothed Jack as he brushed the hair away from his drooping eyes. He had to admit it was kind of amusing to have Warrick and Jack so jealous as they fawn over Nick, as frustrating as it was to be treated almost like a child with his knack for trouble—something that did bond the two men into an unspoken promise to keep Nick safe.
And Nick’s sure as hell going to do the same for them.
He spoon fed Jack half a bowl of soup, prodding a few crackers into the man’s tight lips as he tries not to vomit but Nick catches it just in time with a well placed bucket, and a cup of water to replenish the lost fluid.
“Gonna take that to the lab and analyze it?” Jack asked in a daze, and while Nick knew he wasn’t being serious, he wasn’t quite joking, either. It was always hard to read Jack through his dry wit and sarcasm, though they both tended to share the same mask of a sort of goofy charm to hide the real emotions underneath, but it was even harder to read him now, when he was buried under sickly flesh and muzzled with crowded sinuses.
“No matter how many samples I would run, you’d always remain a mystery to me, Jack Dalton,” Nick smiled warmly.
“I li—” Jack’s words hitched into a brief coughing fit that worried Nick until he gurgled out the phlegm that was teasing his throat, “...like it that way.”
His words faded into a gentle snore, his lips parted open and his legs were already kicking the blanket off before Nick wrestled it back to submission to cocoon Jack. He turned down the television and closed the blinds, before settling back onto the floor, leaning his head down on top of Jack’s shoulder, continuing to stroke his hair as he caught the yawn that stretched out of Jack’s mouth.
“I like it that way too,” Nick whispered, and fell asleep into a fever dream of his own, where he’d spend a lot more time with this softer, vulnerable side of Jack Dalton in the domestic bliss that neither of them can afford to ever truly have.
