CS373 and CS378 Week One
I am taking both CS373 and CS378 this summer, and because both classes are very similar at this point, this post will apply to both of them.
Since classes have started, I've learned quite a bit about the programming process in general. I had never used most of the tools Professor Downing introduced to us for the first project, so a large amount of my time this week was devoted to trying to get everything sorted out. However, I imagine that on future projects I will be much more familiar with these tools and will not have to spend so much time setting everything up. Also, I have always had rather limited interaction with the command line, but between compiling and running my program in Java, Python, and C++, and dealing with Git, I am feeling increasingly comfortable with it.
Already I feel like I'm learning so much from this class, and it's a really great feeling when you can actually see yourself using the things that you learn in class in the future.
I do have to say though that between Piazzza and Assembla, my email is constantly being spammed by messages. In fact at this very moment, a big 96 is staring at me from my Google Mail Checker. It's a little overwhelming, and it's often difficult to differentiate important posts about the project from everyone's issue trackers and blog posts.
These two classes together seem like they'll be alot of work, but I can already tell I'll be glad at the end of the summer that I did decide to take them if not a little sleep deprived.
