Continued from here for @crzynightâ !
She could barely hear him. Not that it was his fault, the little she knew about the whole situation. Some of it was divulged willingly, other bits she just happened to overhear. âJeez, this kid...â she muttered, though she was far less annoyed than she was disappointed. Some people just needed a little tough love to bring out their strongest sides, but not this kid. This kid, Fujiko was sure, had seen hell.
Not unlike her own upbringing, as much as she wished she could deny it. No one just comes to have a life like hers out of the blue. The best thieves arenât born, theyâre made.
At least her cigarette was mostly gone. Setting the butt in the ashtray, Fujiko left it on the porch, popped a breath mint in her mouth from the container she kept in her pocket, and strolled back inside. There she found Yusuke, bound hands and equally bound voice, glancing around the kitchen for something to appease her. The colors on his bandages meant he was immersed in his favorite and likely only hobby. Goemon, in Goemonâs way, insisted that his nephew looked after himself. Which from what Fujiko could see, was scribbling until he didnât hurt anymore.
Probably healthier than her own coping mechanisms.
âLook, itâs okay. Iâm supposed to stay here, but Lupin never said that here had to be this house,â She winked cheekily. With Goemon off training, that meant Lupin and Jigen had to stake out the nearby construction site. A certain CEO was supposed to visit, someone who had in his possession the various keys to a safe in the nearest city. It wasnât Tokyo to be sure, but the treasure inside was rumored to be worth several billion yen. Fujiko guessed the guy assumed a less populated place meant fewer interested parties. Still, there was some irony in the thought of Lupin and Jigen spending the day performing manual labor in the hot sun, exhausted and sore all for the sake of a heist while sheâd spent the morning in the bath with a magazine. All she had to do was stay away from the construction site: it wasnât her fault they decided to rob the guy she already hit a few years back who fully swore off women on any of his building projects ever since sheâd made off with a stunning sapphire and diamond necklace.
Fujiko chuckled. It was one piece she couldnât bring herself to sell, at least not yet. It made her light up like a firework when she wore it.
âSo, letâs clean up your bandages, if you can get me the first aid kit, and then Iâll drive us into town for supplies. Weâll get something to eat when weâre out. Maybe something that isnât Japanese food. Knowing your uncle, thatâs probably all he ever gives you. What do you say?â She smiled to Yusuke, a rare smile that had no strings attached. For once, she didnât want or need anything from someone else. She had the car keys and her wallet, though she doubted sheâd need the latter.
