it’s so silly, but he is like The top dude in his area of law, both as practitioner and academic. he’s considered one of the greatest legal minds out there. on the capitalist scale of success he is Big and Important and he knows who i am and valued my work enough to signal an at least somewhat genuine desire for me to stay in touch with the firm.
the entire reason i got into law librarianship in the first place was because i was wavering between practicum options for my summer practicum course at library school. there were a couple that seemed interesting, but there was one at a law firm, also interesting, but mostly as a test for myself. i wanted to see if i could do it. “If I can please lawyers,” I thought to myself, “I can please anyone.” it was a challenge to myself. it was a success. this feels like a continuation of that first challenge. if i can please lawyers, i can please anyone. i did it. i pleased the lawyers. i pleased The Lawyer of All Lawyers. i can do anything.
