I Dream of that Day: Part II [Mikasa - Annie]
Mikasa stared at the crystallized existence in front of her that was once her friend. Annie Leonhart. Her soft blond hair interlocked, her lips pressed shut, and her eyes closed as though she was in a deep slumber. She looked peaceful... much more peaceful than the Annie that was in her memories. Gone were her traces of bored mask, her pair of icy blue eyes that always stare coldly at people. Her intimidating attitude. Gone was the Annie that Mikasa had long known throughout their trainee years. Looking at her sleep so peacefully like this it almost felt impossible to think that Annie was the female titan. That Mikasa, with her own hands, had cut Annie down in her titan form to prevent her escape. At that time she didn't care - nor did she feel guilty about it. She was simply doing what she needed to do - protecting Eren, her last family.
And to tell the truth she still hated Annie for what she did to Eren - for causing him harm, and for killing countless of her other comrades. She wouldn't forgive her. Yet there was something on the back of her mind that kept calling - and somehow she found her feet had brought her here, to the underground, to see her former friend and ally from the 104th squad.
You have 10 minutes, said Hanji before closing the door right behind her, leaving her alone in the room with Annie. She stepped closer to the crystal.
"We have never really got along, have we?" asked Mikasa to the silent statue of her former friend. She knew she wouldn't get a reply from Annie, but she talked anyway. "I know why I'm here," she continued, her eyes tracing over her silent friend's figure. "That time... I didn't feel sorry cutting you, I did what I needed to." She exhaled.
"But our conversation... about your father. I wonder if your reason for doing this has something to do.. with him...?"
Slowly she reached her hand to touch the hardened crystal. The moment her fingers came into contact with the crystal, suddenly it felt like a spark had gone through her fingers, electrifying her, causing her to withdraw in shock. And as though in a dream, she began to watch Annie's past, unraveling itself in front of her.Â
