"[...] Lena, who was given to me as basically, oh, this is a sad old woman who is totally dependent on her husband and worships him."
"And I try to develop her as somebody who has real dignity and a story like how she became paraplegic and her working at a mail order shoe company, that kind of stuff came from me."
- Olga Moskvina, Human Can Opener Podcast
"Gary was the hardest one to write for me, because it required me getting out of myself. Like, Lena and Morell are closer to I guess, me, than people have known. But Gary, Gary is something else entirely. [...] There are still things that I thought were too audacious that I'd first cut and then Robert put back."
"(Hold on, does that mean you're responsible for the anal beads?) I am! And I disconnected that branch and Robert looked at it and went like, "No.""
"[...] I mean like, he's a racist but he's also a coward, basically. He's kind of this reptilian sort of figure you just want to step on, to put him out of his misery."
- Olga Moskvina and The 41st Precinct, Human Can Opener Podcast
to me this is like collecting the infinity stones
so like... lena, right. to preface: i'm also disabled, just mentally and a bunch of other factors make it so there'll always be a difference between me and lena's experiences but i got that passive empathy check where he picks up on that grief she has for her years without paraplegia and it's like. i don't know. i get a feeling in the same vein with my own disabilities.
from what i can gather of my playthrough so far, martinaise isn't a place for accessibility, to put in lightly—hell, real life is seldom accessible! but you already know how it is—i haven't seen a single thing made to give people like lena (who is also noted to be middle class) an easier life, save for the assists that gary put around his apartment. well, even though she and morell actually live in jamrock, not martinaise, i still have my doubts...
in conclusion, the disabled cast starts with our very own superstar, harry, to more niche characters like lena and smoker on the balcony... but i'm greedy and want more of them. ok!

this image really speaks to me
lena's and morell's relationship IS unhealthy and that's part of what makes them so great imho. let all of the cryptotrio be the weirdos they are.
i feel like genderswapping the cryptotrio but making up names for them is so hard. would girl gary just be called garri. is there really no other way.
