#cryptelytrops macrops

This is Cryptelytrops macrops, a pit viper found in South Asian countries including Thailand, Laos, and Cambodia. It's Latin name, "macrops", translates to "large eyes". These relatively large eyes (which gives it the common name "Large-Eyed Pit Viper") also give this snake a visual distinction from the many other similar-looking vipers in the area. While it is venomous, bites rarely result in fatality but can cause long-term localized issues including necrosis. With eyes as lovely as this, we recommend the look-but-don't-touch approach.
