Merlin walked up the steps to his door, pulling his key out of his pocket and smiling softly. On Fridays, Arthur was off and Merlin had half a day at work, and Merlin was looking forward to curling up on the couch, legs and arms in a tangled mess, and watching some dumb comedy together. However, he barely had his key in the lock when he heard a very, very, very distinguishable scream of rage.
"Arthur? Are you okay?" Merlin asked, rushing into the living room.
"I killed it Merlin! It wouldn't fly!" Arthur yelled. "What kind of bird is this? Why are birds now incapable of continuous flight?"
"What?" Merlin asked, dumbfounded. They didn't have a bird. Maybe the cat had brought in a bird...
"Did George bring a bird in?" Merlin asked.
"No, Merlin, Gwaine did." Arthur said irritably, tapping angrily at his phone with one finger.
"Gwaine... Brought a bird into the house? And you killed it?" Merlin asked, thoroughly confused.
"No, Gwaine made me get some stupid app and now I can't- Aaaagh!" Arthur yelled, throwing his phone at the wall. Thank God Merlin had made him get an Otterbox. Merlin stooped down to pick it up and handed it back to Arthur.
"Be careful, Arthur, Otterboxes can't handle too much-," Merlin cut off, ducking to avoid Arthur's iPhone. This time, it nearly made a dent in the wall.
"I'm, uh, gonna take George out, then," Merlin said, gesturing awkwardly in the general vicinity of the door. Arthur nodded, stabbing at his phone with his pointer finger and making distressed noises. Merlin scooped up their little gray cat and walked into the kitchen, stroking George's back as the cat rubbed his face into Merlin's shoulder. Merlin dropped George in front of the cat door and let the cat run into the yard, leaping after a tiny white butterfly. Merlin grabbed his phone and sent Gwaine a text.
"What the hell did you do to my boyfriend?" Merlin sent. He grabbed a water bottle from the fridge and chugged half of it, wincing when Arthur let out another scream of rage and a stream of curses.
"fuck u i was about to get a new high score dont ever text me again" Gwaine replied, and Merlin snorted.
"I will execute your entire family!" Arthur screamed, and Merlin went back into the living room. He snatched Arthur's phone and tossed it onto the opposite couch, climbing onto Arthur's lap so he couldn't grab it.
"Merrrrlinnnn." Arthur whined.
"No more," Merlin said. "We have a day off and I'm not spending it listening to you screaming at your phone."
"But Merrrrlinnnnn, Gwaine bet I couldn't beat his high score..." Arthur said. "And I need to prove I'm still the best."
"That is the dumbest thing I've heard today." Merlin said, rolling his eyes and leaning in to kiss Arthur.
