Tamura felt ridiculous. The opening ceremonies were always frivolous to watch, she thought. No point in looking beautiful before walking into a blood bath. But nonetheless, her she was, standing on the small chariot next to her oh-so-silent male counterpart. District two was masonry and weapons production, so the stylists always made the outfits bold and solid. This year, they went an with exaggerated gold chest piece that mounted like armor, with strong shoulder pads that raised slightly, over a cascading metallic dress that looked like molten iron when she just barely moved. Her hair was slicked back, into a neat bun, jewels placed around her crown. Her face was painted with sharp angles, lined eyes that could cut, a daring red cupid’s bow.

She felt caged. She took in a deep breath, but found the chest piece restricted it. Great, just perfect.
