Cruise ship France, built in 1910, seen in Lisbon in 1930.
At the time of its maiden voyage, in 1912, it was nicknamed the “Versailles of the Atlantic”. Originaly a steamship, it served the First world war transporting troops and later as a Hospital ship. In 1923, upon returning to civil life, she was converted into a motor ship.
Scrapped in 1935, when it became obvious the ship was too pricey and too dated to be a suitable competitor to more modern versions in the market.
