watched first 2 episodes of whitepine

so far i love how very grounded it is. all of the quiet moments and music gives me negative space vibes (like in drawings or 3d modeling - giving eyes some time to rest). it's kinda refreshing. feels more like a slice-of-life than a murder mystery

also i have a feeling these are going to be relevant later:

sometimes ivorycello lingers on certain aspects of it to highlight key details like- I'm pretty sure these are all trophies that the hemlockes earned to show that they're the top level in their fields or that they're very prestigious or renowned ALTHOUGH ,, you could be right in saying that they could be Chekhov's guns in the sense that they could allude to something we previously didn't know about or it's brought up in subtle conversation later that layers into the theme of a class divide. I'd have to rewatch these few episodes through - maybe she could be recalling something or committing it to memory? either way I agree that this feels intentional, as are most things in her directing style !!

you know that thing where ai timelapses don't show the artist redrawing the lineart over and over again and you look in the comments and it's calling them out? well weirdly specific but I need to get the lineart first try or I die. I die. I die they shoot me I die. this is because , for my entire education, instead of listening to the teacher I would have a small slip of paper tucked in my hands and I would use my ballpoint pen to perfectly etch out every single line of my blue wolf oc with gold blood and cheek scars and if I Fuck Up I need to discreetly retrieve a New slip of paper without my teacher holding up my illustration to the class as a humiliation ritual.

No, I could not have used a pencil. I needed my pen so they wouldn't know I was drawing. They thought I was writing.

I had a monopoly on slips of paper. See, I would take whatever blank sheet of paper I could steal, sacrifice or gain by any other means and I would divide them into perfect card-sized pieces with my advanced "folding and tearing" technique that I've perfected over the years and then I would slip that paper into the front pocket of my school blazer and take one out almost every single class. I would estimate around 400 illustrations were created by the end of it all and now I don't have to do that anymore as I have since pursued higher education where I'm actually supposed to draw.
