anon i'mma keep it real wit you (rant incoming sorry for your askbox <3) no one gives a fuck how overused things may be, and no one gives a fuck if the white girl being the main character in a YA story is overused. if you do not like the writing being displayed here, find something else. there will be a hundred other characters that play to what you're interested in. stories are just that. stories. if you yourself are bored by what seems to you like the "thousandth white girl YA lead", FIND NEW MATERIAL. there are people who STILL enjoy this.
I have written the same character for nearly a decade. There may be a thousand white boys with trust issues who play the guitar, but fuck if it isn't fun for myself to write it.
Why else would coffee shop fics and the like STILL EXIST in 2021 if they weren't engaging to an audience? Let people write what they enjoy writing. If you do not like what they write, perhaps their writing simply isn't for you, don't make it a personal attack.

Btw my friend here made amazing points. Bro we're here for overused tropes BECAUSE WE LOVE THEM TO DEATH. I have read a ton of YA fantasy books. Will I stop? No, because I love them. Do they share similarities? Yes. Do they often tell the same story? Yes. Do I care? No, if the story is engaging and written well, why would I.
Also seriously! If white girls are too much? Don't read about white girls dude. Exactly. I dunno if I already said that but. That's it. That's just it. Don't want? Don't do. Simple.
There are just things we will likely never get tired of, like coffee shop AUs. There are different people that share the same race, gender, sexuality etc. And getting... how do I say, overstimulated with something (is this correct? My english isn't helping me sorry) can be frustrating. That's probably what happened with the fella who sent me that ask.
