โOh, there you are. And here I thought that you were finally resting when I didnโt see you in your office.โ
Anakthue grinned. He would always recognize the footsteps of his charge. So, he looked up from the table he was cleaning and turned his gaze to the Lalafell that came down the stairs from the upper-floor library.
But the moment he saw Vallencia, the smile faded. Rarely had he seen her showing her exhaustion so much โ and it wasnโt only the eye bags that she couldnโt hide behind her glasses.
โIs โฆ everything alright? You look tired.โ The moment the Au Ra said that, he could have facepalmed. When did the lady not look tired?
He kept himself from doing that and rushed to the stairs instead, extending a hand, to catch her if she should trip or fall.
And Vallencia did, in fact, fall. Anakthue couldnโt tell for sure if it was because he was there or if she would have fallen any way. But she just let herself go and fell against his leg.
โI give up โฆโ
โWhat?โ The Xaela raised his eyebrows and quickly crouched down to hold the Lalafell. โWhat happened?โ
โI donโt want anymore. Thereโs no way we can do anything. No matter how hard Sang and I try. No matter how much you help us. We wonโt find her. We wonโt be safe.โ
Anakthueโs face turned grim as he heard that. Especially, when his charge started sobbing quietly.
โCome with me,โ he ordered and took her in his arms, keeping an eye on the papers she was still holding in her arms. โYou need to get some rest.โ
As quickly as he could, he brought her to his room. No one else in the free company needed to see her like this. And no one else would be looking for her here. So, she could rest here without having anyone barging into her office.
โYouโve done enough, Valli, now sleep.โ Softly, the Au Ra put everything down and Vallencia in his bed.
โI canโt! Even if we canโt do anything, I have to โฆโ
โShh โฆโ
Without letting her speak any further, Anakthue put a hand on her head, slowly closing her eyes. โYouโve done enough โฆโ
She was so exhausted that she fell asleep within seconds of him doing so.
The moment Anakthue knew that the free company leader was already sleeping, he sighed. She had definitely been doing enough, and hopefully sheโll be happier again tomorrow. But for now, it was his turn to do something.
