Sports Rivalries
Sports rivalries are a lot of fun. I live just north of Chicago and right now the cross town cup is going on. I, of course, am rooting for the Cubbies. Rivalries are such a natural part of any sport. I think rivalries are healthy, but others tend to disagree. At my high school, we have a rivalry with the north side high school. So many people that don't go to either school don't understand why we can't stand each other. To be honest most people inside the feud don't know. It's like the Bears and Packers. You hate the other team cause it's just what you do. The special thing is it makes you feel like you are a part of something bigger. That's what sports do. Sports bring people together and give life more purpose. It sounds hypocritical doesn't it. How can something that drives two sides apart bring others together? It's simple really; the strongest bonds come from a mutual feeling about something, whether love or hate. Rivalries present two mutual feelings. My biggest question, however, is, how do players feel about rivalries?
