This weekend’s cake (and cookies) was for a christening for a pair of siblings. I don’t get a lot of chances to do shaped cakes so I was really excited to do this one even if it was just a simple cross (though I can assure you even a cross shape is never that simple…lol). It also gave me another chance to flex my cookie decorating skills which I’ve found I do much better at when using fondant instead of royal icing.
My first hurtle was trying to decide how I would make the cross shape which I decided using a 1/2 sheet cake and cutting it would work perfect. While I had to do a little filling in here and there for a few gaps it did work well.
In the end it all came together and turned out really nice, my client was totally in love with it so my mission was accomplished. Check out some pics below of the christening cake and decorated cookies!!

This was my grandma's birthday cake. Throughout the war she went through many hardships including being sent to Siberia. Her family home in Poland was taken away from her and she was sent to New Zealand for safety, she was only a teenager when all of this occured. At the end of February she celebrated her 88th Birthday. i love my grandma so much, so I decorated her cake with the medal she was rewarded - the Siberian Cross. It has the Polish crest in the centre :) I love you babcia
