The tentacled flathead or crocodilefish (Papilloculiceps longiceps) is a flathead fish within the order Scorpaeniformes, an order which also includes the scorpionfishes and stonefishes. It is found in the Western Indian Ocean and the Red Sea, and now also occurs in the Mediterranean, having invaded as a Lessepsian migrant through the Suez Canal. They are predatory bottom-dwelling fish, using their camouflage to ambush their prey.

No prizes for guessing where the crocodilefish (Cymbacephalus beauforti) got its name from. This bizarre species of flathead has just that – a large, flat, elongated head, just like a crocodile’s. Even its fins look like feet.

This was a super cool moment! I was diving along a sea wall in front of an island called Bunaken. Sitting on a ledge was a resting Sea Turtle with two Remoras on its shell.
