Smriti Mandhana is still running the ODI batting charts and the rest of the rankings are scrambling behind her
Thereâs something quietly funny about global sports rankings.
Behind all the drama of international cricket, the rivalries, the travel, the endless series and tournaments, thereâs still a giant spreadsheet somewhere at the International Cricket Council where numbers shift around every week.
Names move up. Names slide down. Entire careers seem to wobble a few points at a time.
And yet, at the very top of the womenâs ODI batting list, the same name keeps calmly refusing to move.
Smriti Mandhana.
The opener from the India women's national cricket team is still sitting at number one in the world in the latest ODI rankings update, continuing a run that has started to feel less like a hot streak and more like a permanent piece of the landscape.
Mandhanaâs game has always been built on rhythm rather than noise. She doesnât arrive at the crease with the theatrical energy of some modern power hitters. Instead the innings tends to unfold in a quieter way, through timing, placement, and the sort of balance that makes bowlers slowly realize theyâre running out of ideas.
That consistency is exactly the sort of thing rankings systems reward.
Elsewhere in the Indian lineup, the positions are a little more fluid.
India captain Harmanpreet Kaur remains inside the top ten, currently holding eighth place in the ODI batting rankings.
Meanwhile Jemimah Rodrigues has slipped slightly to twelfth following Indiaâs recent ODI series against the Australia women's national cricket team, which ended in a 3â0 result for Australia.
Rankings have a way of reacting quickly to series like that.
While India saw some small shifts, the biggest leaps in this update came from New Zealand.
The New Zealand women's national cricket team have been hosting the Zimbabwe women's national cricket team in an ODI series, and a few White Ferns players used the opportunity to make a serious climb.
Captain Amelia Kerr delivered the kind of performance that statisticians love.
Four wickets in the opening match, followed by an extraordinary seven wicket haul in the second ODI in Dunedin. That effort pushed her five places up the ODI bowling rankings and strengthened her position among the worldâs top all rounders.
Another big moment came from Brooke Halliday, who produced a remarkable unbeaten 157 from 117 balls in the first match of the series. The innings pushed her eight places up the ODI batting rankings.
Teammate Maddy Green also nudged her ranking upward after scores of 67 and an unbeaten 27 across the first two games.
There was movement in the T20 rankings as well.
During the recent series between the West Indies women's national cricket team and the Sri Lanka women's national cricket team, Sri Lankan opener Hasini Perera climbed fifteen places in the T20 batting rankings after scoring an unbeaten half century in St. George's.
Young batter Imesha Dulani also moved up following an unbeaten 34, while all rounder Kavisha Dilhari improved her standing in both bowling and all rounder categories.
For the West Indies, spinner Afy Fletcher climbed to seventh in the T20 bowling rankings after picking up wickets across the final two matches.
So yes, the rankings shifted in plenty of places this week.
Players climbed. Others slid a few spots.
But when the ICCâs big statistical machine finished recalculating everything, the same quiet reality remained at the top of the list.
Smriti Mandhana. Still number one.
