miss penny here is a wilson, meaning she was adopted!

she was put up for adoption when she was 3, adopted when she was 13.

she only very vaguely remembers her birth parents; like, it’s there, but it’s just so foggy because she was so young

all she knows is that her last name used to be scott

so basically, she was bounced around in foster care til she was 12, she ended up with the wilsons, and after a year she was adopted! we love to hear it!

however, as i’m sure we all know, this process takes a toll on the kid involved, but i will get more into that in the personality section

at this point, penny’s very much settled and happy with the wilsons, she’s getting comfortable with being more sociable, she’s excelling at school and her extracurricular activities, life’s good!

penny went on to go to cornell, got her bachelor’s in sociology and minored in human development, then got her master’s in development sociology

she loves kids and really wanted to work with them, and she always was stuck between social work and teaching, but our girl came back to crestview and settled on teaching

now she’s been a teacher up at the high school for 2 years! and now we’re all caught up woo

penny’s got some emotional baggage from the whole foster care situation, but really, she’s worked/coped with a lot of it since when it’s happened

loves stability, craves consistency in absolutely everything she does ever

that very much manifested into perfectionistic tendencies; she didn’t really have control of much in her life during these important growing stages, but the few things that she could control (like school performance) she did 100%, and if she was gonna control them they were gonna be perfect, period

(plus, she always figured if she was a perfect kid, maybe a family would really take initiative on adopting her)

so she’s a really hard worker, and she gets very invested into everything she does. when she’s set on something, she focuses on it and makes it happen because she knows it’s something she can control

struggles with anxiety around her success and achievement (also around what people think of her), but she used to not handle it as well when she was younger

she used to be really hesitant about making connections to folks because she never knew how long she was gonna be around, but once she found some stability, penny really became a social butterfly

however, she still tends to hold people at arm’s length until she’s 100% positive that there’s a sense of stability n trust there. basically like yeah she’s got a lot of friends, but she’s got a handful of people who are friend friends and know her beyond the perfect facade she likes to hold up

super family oriented!!! loves her family so much!! it’s why she had no problem changing her last name to wilson instead of keeping it as scott

and seeing as ana was her cousin, i’m sure penny knew her at least fairly well despite her being adopted later

very much an optimist, very hopeful, always tries looking at things positively

very patient with almost everybody but herself oops

loves being a teacher!! penny’s the type of teacher you respect, like her rules are pretty firm and she doesn’t water down the work at all, but she goes out of her way to give you everything you could possibly need to succeed, and she’s very attentive and willing to work with you with anything

penny loves kids!! so much!! you know how some people will drop everything when they see a puppy? that’s penny when she sees babies

FACTS.

um just gonna say take anything i say about the family/home with a grain of salt bc obv hoping the brown’s get taken up and details might change but this what i feel like shiloh’s life is like right now yk yk

has lived in crestview with her family her whole life and as result very much romanticises  the rest of the world. has a very idolised view of literally every where else and has big dreams of travelling once she’s finished high school (or she did until everything :/)

she’s very much an arsty farsty soft queen, definitely has had a/is still going through her van gogh phase. has a yellow kanken that she takes everywhere. isnt actually very artistically inclined but! is in band and drama club and is kinda good at both of those? she’s the girl that never gets the lead but does get a fun and significant side character in the school plays. huge musical theatre nerd would do anything for alex brightman and ben platt and thats just facts

she knew ana long before she became her math tutor, or knew of her. and there had been a kind of quiet, mostly unrealised crush on her before she was recruited to be her tutor. it’s just when she finally got to spend time with her one on one that the crush just went wild and shiloh was hard core into her. 

shiloh isn’t out, she hasn’t even come to terms with the fact that she’s attracted to women yet so she did not process this crush well at all. she didn’t know what to do with her feelings or what they meant or if they would ever go away. so instead of dealing with the feelings, she just became kind of secretly obsessed with ana. it started small, going through her instagram and being aware of her schedule sort of thing but unchecked and unaddressed it just got worse and worse to the point where in the weeks leading up to ana’s death, shiloh was following her.

inherently she knows what she did was wrong, and that she went too far, she knew that when she was doing it. but she can’t process that because that would mean accepting that she had a crush on ana at all and internalised homophobia says NO BITCH !!!

in the early days of the investigation i imagine shiloh probably accidentally let on that she knew more about ana and the people ana spent time with than she should and that plays a big role in why she is still under investigation now. she does, however, have an alibi (though it is somewhat shakey and false but whatever)

at the moment she really just wants to move on, and leave everything to do with ana behind her but obviously that’s not easy. not only is her family suffering as a result of her being a suspect in ana’s case, the town is still grieving, so she’s just trying her best to be better from everything and be a positive influence to those she comes in contact with but like struggle street yk

she’s a soft dumb bitch and has definitely cried over something that happened in animal crossing (was it kk slider visiting her island? was it timmy and tommy nook simply existing? was it mable being excited to see her? was it all of those things???? yes !) give her ur love pls thank u

She likes getting what she wants, some people would even call her spoiled. She is determined and acts differently depending on the scenario. 

She likes having her own money and being able to depend on herself and not her family, that’s why she started doing some shows online to win some cash. She liked the attention and the extra income was a nice bonus so that’s something she’s been doing for a while now. 

After the whole murder thing and her being a suspect she’s been feeling really anxious and doesn’t like the sort of attention she’s has been receiving. 

She is being really protective of herself and has distanced herself from some people mainly because she doesn’t know who to trust. She was usually the type of person who kept things to herself and only talked to the people close to her. 

Her biggest fear is that if she does something wrong they’ll pin everything on her as a scapegoat. 

What is your character’s name? 

Joelle Grace Hanlon. When Joelle was younger, most of her family called her Jojo, however, as she grew older that fazed out, and eventually, she came up with Elle as a nickname in hopes to sound mature when entering high school. However, her parents and siblings call her both.  

FACTS

Most wouldn’t know it, but The Hanlon’s are not Joelle’s biological family, though they are the only ones she knows. Joelle has no memory of her other mother. When she was was just weeks old, her biological mother was killed by a drunk driver, and her father had abandoned the two of them, just days after her birth. Joelle immediately was placed in foster care, but the Hanlon’s found her and adopted her. 

Because of the way her mother was killed, Joelle has a sensitivity to alcohol and prefers to stay away from it. 

Being the baby of the family has its benefits. She knows how to push buttons to get her way, especially from her dad. For as long as she can remember she has always been a daddy’s girl, which makes his absence at home that much more difficult to handle, especially when it feels like he is not doing enough to solve Ana’s case, knowing what a toll it has taken on Joelle. 

Growing up she never had a lot of friends, in part because she didn’t need them. Joelle had her siblings, but now that they are older, she often feels left out, like they all have their lives now, which means no time for little her anymore.

Joelle also has struggled with friends because she is a Scorpio, and can sometimes be intimating. She will never hold back how she feels and if one has a problem with her, she could care less and will do as she feels regardless.

Joelle met Ana when she joined the volleyball team her junior year. She had accidentally found a love for the sport, and Ana was one of her friends she made almost instantaneously. The two were fairly close, so naturally, Ana’s death has been traumatic, to say the least.  

In some ways, Joelle feels the police are not doing their job and keeping information from the public, so she is taking matters into her own hands. Joelle stole some of her father’s police documents in hopes to find out the truth about her friend’s death because whenever she mentions it to her dad, he gives her the “ this is an ongoing investigation, therefore legally I am unable to tell you anything.”

With graduation right around the corner, Joelle is still uncertain what she even wants to do with her life.

BACKGROUND

TW: Death

Anthony’s parents (Elizabeth and Jacob) were childhood best friends turned sweethearts turned accidental young parents at the age of like, 19/20. This accidental child was indeed Anthony. When he was about three years old, his dad died. There's a lot of weird n repressed murky memories around what happened. His mom always says he died trying to help someone, like he got caught in the crossfire during a mugging or something, and Anthony is like, actively choosing to believe her, even though he does not realize he is making a choice in it. 

So he has a very holier-than-thou, pristine image of his dad in his head. Like this guy was the coolest, bravest, sickest mf on the planet, half to memorialize him and half to avoid grieving something that he was robbed of, i.e. a parent. In reality, his dad was very directionless and lost and unreliable and not a bad guy but Anthony's mom had no plans to stay with him. He kind of just smoked weed all day, drank too much, and played video games. What Anthony doesn’t know, or what been kept from him because he does not remember, is that his dad didn’t die playing hero. His dad died because he drank too much one night, didn’t wear a seat belt, and swerved into the opposite lane while driving the family home. He crashed into another car, which killed himself and someone in the other car too.

Eventually, Anthony's mom found love elsewhere. The guy (Magnus McNulty) was well off and handsome and tried very hard to be buddy-buddy with then-10 year old Anthony, and eventually Anthony's mom and Magnus got married and had a daughter, Cassandra (Cassie). For a long time Anthony had a lot of contempt for this new little family unit, and still refuses to call his mom’s husband anything other than his first name. He felt like his mom betrayed him and his dad by getting with Magnus; he still kind of feels that way.

He started stealing when Cassie was born. It was little stuff at first, packs of gum at the corner store when his mom sent him for milk and candy from CVS. As he’s gotten older, he taken to also stealing things that aren’t necessarily bigger but less sterile and devoid of importance. At rich kid parties, he tends to swipe nice-looking silverware, candlesticks, and on one memorable occasion a gold bracelet. He doesn’t do much with these things but keep them in his desk drawers or under his bed.  He still takes stuff of the shelves and racks of stores but he’s almost gotten too good at it, at least at the little league stuff; it’s kinda losing the thrill. Something with higher stakes may be in order.

PERSONALITY & ETC.

Other stuff to know about Anthony is that he has to watch his little sister a lot (yawn), he has had a rock collection since he was in kindergarten, he reads comics and unironically loves superhero movies, and he’s a little “fuck da police” edgelord.

Trying to get him to be serious or sincere can be like pulling teeth — it’s frustrating for you and painful for him, and most people seem to be charmed by it or endlessly frustrated. He’s the kid taking pictures of his elbow when his arm is bent because it looks like a butt. He has a ‘420′ story highlight on his Instagram page and is a seasoned shit-poster.  He's goofy and says weird shit just to say weird shit. He thinks girls who ignore him are into him. Standard practice. He wants to bring levity babey.

He plays the drums because when they chose instruments back in elementary school he chose the one that would annoy his mom and Magnus the most, but now he’s really into it. His favorite bands are like, The Strokes, Nirvana, The Flaming Lips, Rat Boy, Dinosaur Jr, etc.

He tells people Shiloh had a huge crush on him when they first met and he had to turn her down just to troll her. <3

He has a scar on his head from the car crash that he has been told was from falling from a swing set and again he doesn’t question it.

Sophia is the oldest of the Romero children and absolutely hates the situation her parents came up with.  But she knows how much appearances mean to her parents so she kept quiet about all of it and frankly just avoids them all when possible.

After graduating high school she went to college to study fashion design.  Sophia had dreams of moving to New York to try to make it big in the fashion world.  Dreams that were dashed as soon as she heard about her mother’s affair.

of course, this sounds like a recipe for a bit of disaster and, surprise, it was!

lexi had always been an endearing little headache, a pain you couldn’t help but love. very standard annoying little sister! but when she was in about middle school, it was starting to be unbearable

general preteen/teenage angst + overprotective family + weak emotional control + a fiery spirit + a pinch of being spoiled = emotional outbursts

and lexi’s primary emotion just turned out to be anger. when she was at her most uncontrolled you could barely look at her without her blowing up a making a scene wherever she was

was really just taking out her anger on absolutely everybody and was very self destructive. her parents eventually were like okay we’ve gotta try something so boom! anger management classes!

and, as expected, lexi hated them so bad because she hates being told what to do lmao but she’ll still be one of the first to admit (begrudgingly) that they worked

the classes forced her to start looking for better ways to express herself which lead her to get into fashion and makeup (she currently runs a rather successful cosmetic brand online! she makes and sells lashes and lipglosses but wants to expand) and tennis (hitting the shit out of a ball and running around as a good way to redirect anger! plus, cute court fashion!)

lexi still is who she is (fiery and sharp tongued), but she’s not as bad as she was. and she always feels very sad that she put her family through hell and treated them the way she did. she tries her best, though, and hopes it’s enough of a sorry

ana was her best friend on the planet. her passing has put lexi in a bad place emotionally and she feels herself resorting back to her ways of being angry first, destroying things, and cleaning up later

but she really doesn’t want to be that, so she took it upon herself to start anger management back up. it’s nothing to be ashamed of, which she knows deep down, but she keeps it a secret because she doesn’t want people to think she’s out of control again, despite that being exactly how she feels. it’s a pride thing.
