[ Video description: eight planets float, gently turning on their axes, against a starry background. Two of them look Earth-like, two of them are vaguely reminiscent of Dagobah, two of them are icy spheres, and one of them is a ball of red-brown. A black-furred hand with golden claw-nails reaches out and touches the Mars-like planet and it is encaged within three rings spinning on the three different axes, like a gyroscope. The hand reaches out and touches it again and the rings slow down and disappear. End ID. ] I posted previously about Ryan King Art and his tutorials for procedurally-generated materials in blender -- here are some of the fruits of the work I've done for Creator Jam (in Resonite).
As these are assets for a specific game, I didn't separate out the cloud layers into different textures (which I would do if this were standalone) nor did I add any additional layer for "atmospheric glow" -- for once, I wanted to keep it simple.
Adding the gyroscope selection indicator was really difficult, but I like how it turned out.
I do want to redo the ice and dirtball planets, though, as the UV wrapping turned out a bit weird and I want to play with the roughness/smoothness on the dirtball now that I have a slightly better sense of what I'm going. But I've got a ton of other stuff to accomplish so, alas, crow brain (that finds it really likes procedural texture generation) will have to wait a bit.
