I once knew a girl who wore leggings under shorts, not to hide legs but because she didn't want to leggings to feel like they were only pretty when paired with a dress.
I knew a girl who wore tank tops over long sleeve shirts because if they're only ever worn under shirts then no one will get to see them being fabulous.
I knew a girl who, when in art class, was the kid who got paint all over herself and clothes. It wasn't because she was messy, but because she thought the true meaning of art was having fun
I knew a girl who would stain her clothes on purpose and when asked why she'd say it was because it made the clothes more personal, more her, less like every other one and more like her own secret clothes line.
I knew a girl who would do the craziest things, not because she was crazy but because she knew it would make people smile and laugh when they said "she did what?!"
I knew a girl who looked for the best in everything, when she talked to people she'd think about how their eyes we're the greens and blues she'd use to color in the earth. And she would think about how it was so beautiful that this person had a whole world inside of them and didn't even know it.
I knew a girl who would talk to every lonely kid, because she knew what it was like to feel like nobody was on your side. She'd do everything she could to make them smile.
I knew a girl who'd play with the little kids, because she remembered what it was like when she was their age. How every big kid was the coolest, and how it made her day when they played with her.
I knew a girl who would go through her worst fears, spill out her deepest secrets, let her insecurities overrun her. She'd do this all with a smile as long as she knew, that what she was doing was helping someone somehow.
These were the things that made her special, that made her stand out. These were the things that people fell in love with, that got jealous over.
So my only question is, why didn't she realize this before she lost those sparks? She let the demons make her normal.
Well now its time to break free! Be who you are! Don't let society tell you who you should be!
The only reason they'll try to stop you is because they're jealous of you. Jealous that you got the best personality, and jealous that you had the nerve to let it shine.
So, don't let them take your spark from you. After all, when I look in the mirror I wanna see the girl I knew. Not the girl society made me become
