This was a study I saw around last year but has always struck me as an interesting visual presentation of not only linguistics, but cultural differences between regions.  The vocabulary choices (âpopâ vs âsodaâ, âwater fountainâ vs âbubblerâ, etc) probably seem very contrasted depending on your familiarity with a region, whether youâve lived or visited there.  In this example, âCrayonâ can be spoken as:
âCray-ahnâ
âCray-awnâ (like âdawnâ)
âCranâ (1 syllable)
âCrownâ (also 1 syllable)
This is one of my favorites, if only because of the thing youâre all doing now.
How many of you are reading âcrayonâ in your head, in the different pronunciations, and going âugh that doesnât sound rightâ?
in spanish we discuss how to say 'crayons'.Â
