Steven Curry, West Seattle Food Bank Operations Director, so thankful to receive CrateAway's #GivingThanks Donation Crate from Linh Ngo of CrateAway.Â
Happy Thanksgiving! Turkey day is upon us in just one more day, so our CrateAway team thought it is was the perfect opportunity for us to share our thanks and to give back to those who may need a helping hand.
During this season, we wanted to celebrate by remembering the true spirit of the holidays ~ the Gift of Giving. Our team was so excited about the opportunity to go shopping for a local family's holiday feast! We had a list, but a few extra items may have found their way into our cart - enough for two CrateAway crates worth of donations to our local West Seattle Food Bank.Â
If you happen to be in the spirit of giving, we're sure the food banks would appreciate it. My sister, Van, noticed that the food bank line in her area was around the corner. If you happen to have items that others in need can use, but are feeling too busy with the holiday crunch, just put them in a box and let CrateAway pick them up to be donated to a local charity.Â
It's nice, isn't it? Living life simply can also mean living life with charity. What does charity mean to you?
“It's not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.”Â

“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life”- Henry David Thoreau, Walden
A simple life has a different meaning and a different value for every person. For me, it means stripping life of all the non-essentials and spending your time doing what’s important to you. It means getting rid of many of the things you do so you can focus on things you love and spend time with people you love. It means getting rid of the clutter so you are left with only that you value.
Prioritize: If your to-do list is 100 items long, chances are you feel more frustrated than empowered when you look at it. So throw it out and start fresh. Before you even turn on your smartphone each morning, list the top three things you want to do, then get started. At the end of the day, you can breathe easy knowing you’ve tackled the most important tasks.
Simplify your wardrobe: President Obama simplifies his wardrobe by wearing only two suit colors - either a blue or gray suit. He does that to reduce the number of decisions he has to take every day. This allows him to conserve the mental energy so he can make the tough decisions needed to run this country. If you haven’t worn that dress in a year – it’s time to get rid of it or better still donate it.
Take regular media fasts: I recently eliminated TV from my life. This maybe too drastic for some but you can have weekends where you are completely unconnected to the internet, the TV and your electronic games. This will allow you to focus on the real life around you – your friends, your family and the people you care about.
Downsize your life: Have a small, but comfortable home. Less clutter, more space to move, breathe, and do the things you really care about doing. Learn to live with less. Buy less, savor quality more, and put the spare money in the savings account for a rainy day or a reward vacation. I wait for a day before I purchase any single item priced above $25. This allows me to rethink if I really need it and stops me from impulse buys.
