THE ULTIMATE STAND SOCK PUPPET TUTORIAL

I might have to put this in multiple parts because the amount of pictures I’m allowed to posts is limited.

HOKAY SO

You will need:

A sock

Felt (paper would also work but it would be less durable)

Cardboard

Markers (I have found that acrylic markers work best but use what you have)

A hot glue gun and glue

Scissors

Other optional embellishments such as wool or googly eyes

Step one: Identify your victims.

Choose a stand and the sock to represent it. Today I’m making Hierophant Green for the wonderful @pepsidrinkerkakyoin out of an old Minecraft creeper sock. It is the only green sock I could find.

Step two: Plan.

Make a lil sketch. Figure out what elements of the stand you’re gonna use, and which are too complicated to make out of felt.

Step three: cutting things out.

As well as the details you’re going to be making out of felt, you’ll also need an oval of cardboard for the inside of the mouth. Fold it basically in half, but make sure one side protrudes more than the other. That’ll be the top lip. You’ll also want a piece of felt the same shape as and slightly smaller than this for the mouth lining. That’s what the pink oval of felt here is. I’m really bad at judging the sizes of these things so Hierophant Sock has a pretty tiny mouth.

Step four: Constructing the mouth.

Plug in your hot glue gun before cutting a slit in the toe of the sock. Hold the sock heel up while you insert the cardboard, putting the longer side on top. Glue the cut edges of the sock to the cardboard. For Hierophant Sock there was the extra step of adding the white felt around the mouth to cover up the black toe and represent his mask thingy. Then add the mouth lining to cover up the raw edges.

My Cricut got me through Covid lockdown and then once the world went back to normal I kinda let it rot with all of my supplies stuck in a tote. This weekend I pulled it out of sitting at the top of my IKEA closet to make something for my grandma's birthday and got the dangerous thought "Could I Pedro-fy Cricut creations?" Well, here's your answer. @mothandpidgeon says my house is going to look like Pedro Banksy attacked it and she's right.
