I put on my playlist that consists exclusively of cracktros and this has helped my musical confidence immensely by reassuring me that while my music is terrible, so is everyone elses’.
Straight up I do not like about 50% of this playlist and a lot of the remaining good ones are just covers of other songs. Original composition is hard.
I’m mostly doing this to try and identify techniques that get used to add a lot of texture to a piece without using many channels, a lot of these are demoscene-style with very limited palettes so that’s cool.
I have a song going that I’m almost happy with but I still suck at melody composition because who even KNOWS what those are. There’s a reason why 90% of what I write is 5 second clips for system sounds and notifications. Don’t have to handle repeating phrases if there’s no time to repeats.
