The 2015 All-NBA Football Team
The NBA is filled with some of the most dynamic athletes on the planet. Although some may be more coordinated than others, there are a lot of high-energy scrappy players whose style of play can directly translate to the football field. I mean this really doesn't surprise me being that many of these guys were multi-sport guys in highschool and even college prior to joining the highest level of hoops stardom.
In recent years we've seen great success with former hoop stars transitioning to some of the top talents in the NFL. Jimmy Graham, Antonio Gates, Julius Thomas, Julius Peppers, and recently drafted defensive back Quinten Rollins have all had illustrious basketball careers before switching over to football, some even with little to no football experience.
There are a few current NBA stars who I think could make an NFL teams 53-man roster by looking at their style of play on the court. Here's my list of The 2015 All-NBA Football Team.
Starters
CÂ - Kendrick Perkins
Starting off the All-NBA Football Team is Kendrick Perkins. Perk has the kind of mean streak that would be perfect for playing Left Tackle in the league. There's little remnants of finesse in his game on the court, that's probably why his minutes per game have drastically dropped since leaving the Thunder. However, he is a terrific enforcer.Look at the Cavs first round playoff matchup against the Celtics. Perk came into the game and straight up snuffed Jae Crowder from the Celtics. I don't know what that had to do with the game but it showed me clearly Perk DGAF. His never changing scowl and constant pleading that he's never committed a foul when he hacks opposing players screams football player 100%. He's definitely suited for being in the trenches and protecting a QB's blindside.
Hey Perk join the league, you can never get in foul trouble and you can get a lifetime supply of penalty flags without getting ejected!
PF - Blake Griffin
Blake Griffin is possibly the most athletic player in the NBA today. He's strong as hell and he jumps out the gym trying to dunk anything remotely close to the rim. He's worked on his game a great deal since being drafted in 2009. He now has developed a back to the basket post game and a little close to automatic 15 foot jumper. However, can we all agree Blake’s handle just looks atrocious. He reminds me of a 6th grade point guard watching an And1 Mixtape for the 1st time. At times his little crossovers and spin moves are effective but honestly it looks like luck when it is. For that reason Blake is suited for the gridiron. Blake Griffin is a tweener. He’d be a matchup problem wherever you put him on the field, but I think he'd be best suited for playing Tight End. First off, he’d be a matchup nightmare to any defender. He’s too big for a safety to cover and too fast and athletic for a linebacker. Forget Lob City it will be Jumpball City in the end zone for all opposing defenses.
Blake is strong, athletic, fast, and his handles look like he’s fresh off football season anyway. Although I think Griffin has high ceiling for growth in his hoop game, he can definitely be on his Bo Jackson and play both sports. Go throw on some shoulder pads bruh.
SF - Matt Barnes
This next selection was pretty easy. Matt Barnes is a feisty, aggressive, quick-twitch athlete, with great instincts on the court.  A great deal of that style of play coincides with his football player mentality. Barnes was a multisport phenom coming out of Del Campo high school in Sacramento, California. In his senior year of high school Matt amassed a whopping 1,112 receiving yards and a nation leading 28 touchdowns. What more needs to be said? The guy is 6’7” with a wingspan of a Pterodactyl what DB is guarding that? Matt even considered trying out for a few NFL teams during his time as an NBA journeyman back in 2006.
Man line him out wide and throw him the fade. He would even make Geno Smith look like an All-Pro if he played on the Jets.
SG - Tony Allen
Next up is Tony “Turnt Up” Allen. Tony is a high-energy, athletic defender on the Grizzlies. He usually scores off of fast breaks because lord knows he can’t shoot. But even without a jumper he has been one of the key staples to the Grizzlies success over these last few years. With his great defensive instincts in playing passing lanes and giving ball handlers hell I’d have him playing Safety. Tony Allen plays end to end basketball, I doubt he’d have trouble covering the passing lanes of opposing QBs sideline to sideline. He even looks like he could possibly come downhill at full tilt and helmet to helmet a running back on the low.
Trade in those sneaks for cleats man!
PG - Russell Westbrook
Russell Westbrook is one of the most electrifying players in the NBA today. The dude jumps out of the gym, plays relentless defense, and has the killer instincts of a young Kobe Bryant. Russ’s never-welting desire to win has resulted in one of the best three month stretches for a ball player in recent memory. From the months of February-April Russ managed to average a damn near 30-10-10 statline, all while leading the NBA in scoring. Russ lays it on the line night-in and night-out and there’s never any doubt about if he’s come out to play or not. These are translatable traits for a football great. I honestly don’t have a position for Russ on the gridiron. I kind of figured you can line him up damn near anywhere and off heart alone he can be successful. As a DB he’d have too much pride to be beat deep and he plays with enough aggression to assume that he’d come come off the hash and Sean Taylor a few folks. As a Running Back with his speed and killer instincts he’d be relentless and a pain for defenses to tackle. As a Wide Receiver I’d just throw it up and let him go get it, he has a hunger like Dez Bryant. The guy even heals like Wolverine. How many times has Russ had MAJOR injuries but he manages to come back stronger, better, and more competitive than ever before?
Hey Russ I know you’re killing in the NBA but if you ever wanted to pick up the pigskin you could definitely get off!
Bench Reserves
C - Steven Adams
Steven "Patch" Adams is first off the bench for the "All-NBA Football Team". Adams is a scrappy Aussie on OKCs front line. It seems like every time I watch OKC play he's on the verge of getting into a brawl. I mean shit the guy is Australian he probably played rugby growing up and that equates to his physical nature. The man played with a broken hand for half the season still not giving af. If that doesn't scream tough I don't know what does. If he could manage to put on 30-40 more pounds I'd have him on that oline.
PF - Glen Davis
Have you ever looked at "Big Baby" Davis? Enough said. Defensive Tackle/Defensive End in a 3-4 defense. Moving on.
SF - Andre Igoudala
Andre Igoudala has all the intangibles you look for in a dominant small forward. He's big, he can defend, and he's explosive as shit. Really he's like a poor man's LeBron James (But like really poor, no like no food in the cupboard poor, no disrespect.) If you're a 2K player like me you know he's  turnt up soon as he gets in the game. Catching alleys from anywhere, dunking on everyone, running people over not getting charge calls are all apart of his player attributes. On the gridiron I'd line Igoudala up off that edge and let him use his speed and athleticism and raise hell on all QBs. He's built like a DE/OLB hybrid and he plays basketball like one as well. Shit he sort of reminds me of Julius Peppers.
If his NBA play remains as inconsistent as his jump shot he might as well throw a helmet on and become an elite edge rusher!
SG - Nate Robinson
Nate Robinson is the only 3-time NBA Dunk Champion. The guy is 5-9 at the most, that speaks volumes for his athleticism. Nate actually received his University of Washington scholarship for football, he later then transitioned to basketball full time. Everything about Nate’s game on the court screams Cornerback on the football field. He has cat-like reflexes, his hops are unmatched, and he just doesn't care too much. Line him up inside to cover a slot receiver and I guarantee Nate shuts him down. I wouldn't be surprised if he had elite kick return ability to add.
Hey Nate you’re becoming an NBA journeyman, you might as well come back to the field man!
PG -Rajon Rondo
Rajon Rondo has received a dump truck worth of slander lately and rightfully so. He was unhappy with his situation with the Mavs so he literally “mailed it in” in this year’s playoffs. But in my opinion he still has the skills and instincts to be elite in the NBA. But if he no longer cares or lost his passion for the game he might as well pick up a pigskin. I mean shit he’s already at the top of the list for “pass first” point guards. I don’t think he’d have an issue distributing the rock all over the field as a Quarterback. Rondo is also very quick. He went on record claiming that if he ran the 40 it’ll be faster than NFL 40 record holder Chris Johnson’s 4.24. I don’t know about all that, but I bet he’d be a decent dual-threat QB, kind of similar to Russell Wilson up there in Seattle.
And there you have it the 2015 All-NBA Football Team. No we didn’t feature LeBron. He’s arguably the best athlete on Earth and he can probably play anything. Oh well. Check back in to see some of the other lists in the future!
