When COVID-quarantine began I felt a great surge of creativity, so my friend Karol encouraged me to enter a juried show at the de Young Museum. And thus I unearthed ye olde paintbrushes—with vast reserves of impatience, not having oil painted in over 22 years. My friend Margaret consoled me with Virginia Woolf’s apt quotation from To the Lighthouse. It was uplifting...to a point. Had she sent me a paper copy of the quote instead of a snapshot, I probably would’ve torn it up in frustration.
