Something that bothers me.
The expectation of teachers to provide cover when they are off ill. I know a lot of teachers who say they don't take sick days because sometimes setting cover feels more difficult than going in and dragging themselves through the day.
This has to be a recipe for burnout.
[image description: book cover style image in gray scale. On the top of the cover is an upside down cityscape. As the city transitions to sky, there is strong, black, all capital lettering reading “An Original Novella: When Heroes Fall”. Below the title in gray lettering is the subtitle “Who rises when a hero falls?”] Coming Soon to an Ao3 Near You: When Heroes Fall Matt Brighton has been fighting by the Great Comet’s side for three years, defending the city of Axiomville as Nightstar. Nothing can beat this duo until a new villain appears on the scene. The Comet is dead, and now Matt must decide if he will pick up the mantle of Hero. Lien Harris knows the world is filled with injustice. She has seen that injustice and vowed to do her part to bring equality for all– even if she has to become a villain to do so. However, when the Comet dies, Lien must decide if it’s time to turn in the title of villain and become the Hero. Who rises when a hero falls?

Early-stages lighting study for the new cover for the Middle Kingdoms novella Lior and the Sea, which is way overdue for a re-covering.
The seahorse object was created in Daz Studio 4.8 and then processed a little in PoseRay, because Terragen (where the main render was done because of its superior light-handling abilities) likes that, for reasons I don’t understand. (Or care to.)
Immediate concerns: I love the look of the sand but am going to have to add some wetted-down hoofprints in post-processing. I forgot and left the moon (actually the sun turned down) with a blue tint on it... that needs to be removed. When Lior is inserted into the shot, there’ll be some fill-in lighting from her Rod on the sea horse’s head and neck... have to make sure not to overdo it.
Additionally, probably due to the half-assed rigging on the horse figure, his mane and tail didn’t follow him in. Pain in the butt, that. But then the controls on them are also bad -- unusually so for Daz figures. You’d expect this to be better, considering how popular horses would be in heroic renders and so forth. Oh well.
Cover work advice from @Engleeshteacher on twitter
If you teach English set the same work for everyone. My fool-proof cover: ‘Write a letter/article/story/speech/advice leaflet to/for xxx about xxx’ discuss 5m, plan 5m, write 25m, proof read 5m, peer assess 5m improve work/set target for rest. Works for all yr groups in secondary
