Desert Road Trip Day 3: Sedona. The day started and ended in darkness. Capturing the sunrise at Cathedral Rock was incredible. Today was a collection of a few hikes around the Red Rocks Area. The geology is stunning, sedimentary layers of sandstone deposited over hundreds of millions of years. Sedona was at the bottom of an ocean 330 millions years ago. The geological scale is difficult to comprehend. I'm so thankful I get one more day out here. I shot this photo as the sun was setting and it cast a beautiful glow on red rock Courthouse Butte. The butte is north of Oak Creek Village and south of Sedona in Arizona. The butte is 5,454 feet tall. Words can’t even begin to express the magic that I’ve felt while in #Sedona. It’s been everything people speak about and more. I truly didn’t know that much about Sedona before getting here, but the more I’m learning about the energy fields and vortexes the more I’m understanding so much. I could go on and on, but I’ll leave it at this - I’ve met incredibleeeeee humans, refound my focus in a momentous way, and feel lighter and brighter. On my drive from #Phoenix to @amararesort In #Sedona I found myself driving up to these two giant gorgeous red-rock mountains. I didn’t know what they were, but something pulled me towards them. In an effort to trust the journey and not rush to my destination, I pulled over and took a gander. I found a parking permit machine, bought the $5 permit, asked a few other tourists around if they had gone hiking and had any suggestions. I decided that this would be how I started my Sedona experience. I changed into my hiking clothes, turned on some tunes, and followed my gut’s feeling to hike. I ended up spending 5 hours here exploring, climbing what I would learn is Bell Rock (the one to my left), and standing in the grandeur of Courthouse Butte (the one to my right). It was an incredible day that reminded me of why I explore, and why once you start it’s very hard to stop. I later found out from a local I met that Bell Rock is home to one of the four famous vortexes in Sedona, and is known as the Yang Vortex. It’s the masculine or electric vortex, and is best known for serenity and solving problems while tapping into a higher (spiritual) perspective. For decades seekers from around the world have used Bell Rock for comtemplative reflection and inspiration, and I had to simply laugh at the fact that I had just gravitated towards this as my very first experience in Sedona. It truly could not have been more fitting. I say this about a lot of places, but I truly mean this with as much weight as possible, Sedona is a must do. If it isn’t at the top of your bucket list then change that immediately.
