In his day, Joyce took part in singing competitions with his good friend Count John McCormack from Athlone who was a world famous tenor who is credited as having the original record producing career. McCormack started with Edison wax cylinders. Both men became tenners with €10 Silver commemorative coins but Joyce was already known as a tenner long before that because his image was used for the old £10 note.
