Conscious or Unconscious writing
I think that this topic is pretty much related to one of our previous question when we were talking about nature or nurture.
In Songwriting we do the same thing then in any other situation in life: we use our intuitions and our opinions at the same time. Intuitions are always there deep inside, they come earlier then our conscious mind could react but after that we think over something we can form a strong opinion which is then not only based on our first intuitions but on our knowledge too. So when we write we basically do the same, we have an inspiration, sometimes we don’t even know how where we got an idea from, because we feel that we just heart something in our mind and put it to paper. But most of the times after that moment we have to create a whole structured song from these ideas, and it requires a lot of consciousness.
This sentence captured my attention:
“The purpose of Steam of Consciousness is to emulate the passage of thought through your mind without any inhibitors”
So I tried to really just put on paper some phrases of words as they came first in my mind. It is actually not that easy to forget about that controlling part of your mind that always wants to correct these thoughts. But when I was able to manage to just write down these sentences without thinking it was such a liberating feeling!
First I wrote down something like that:
“I see fire-flowers in the ground. They are frozen in ice. They’ve lost their colors because no one tried to heat them up.”
This is pretty much just a weird picture but later on the day, I formed a whole verse from it:
“Fire-flowers frozen in ice
So abounded, lying on the ground
Be the one, who melts the petals on the go
Be the one who brings back the colors and the glow”
