Saltburn thoughts my thoughts on Oliver x Felix.
AKA: I see why Cottonquick is so popular but it's popular depiction by fandom is just too flowery for me.
So many fanfics rely on this idea if Oliver and Felix got together it would be happily ever after. To me that goes against everything in the movie. I just find the majority cottonquick fics so boring. Because Oliver is so much less interesting if he gets the fairytale ending he wants.
my HC based on Saltburn is if Oliver got Felix he'd become so bored with him. I think Oliver is way more in love with the idea of being wanted by the shining popular golden boy. I don't think he'd love the reality and it sure as hell wouldn't fix him.
Also, the director Emerald said Felix is bad at sex. And I can't imagine Oliver mr I work so hard to have sex with your entire family. Including, making a pass at your mom would be ok, with awful sex. With how hard he works at seduction.
I mean he licks Ventia's period blood. Oliver seems to love slightly unhinged foreplay. Felix being bad at sex would be so hilariously disappointing to him. Oliver sleeping with Felix then being like. And thinking "Your sister was better actually. "
Felix is only interesting because he's not that interesting if that makes sense. Felix is in reality you're typical spoiled trust fund kid. With a savior complex.
Emerald says " Every scene he's doing something dickish." I do find him fascinating because of what he represents. The wealthy's denial, discomfort, narcism etc....
There is nothing that makes him stand out as remotely special. Oliver and everyone just project onto him. Outside of that projection, Felix doesn't have that much to offer.
I think a more movie-in-character route would be Oliver would either double down he'd never be happy with Felix but do everything he could to keep Felix as his. Or destroy Felix eventually like he did in cannon to keep him for himself.
I can't see any universe in which Oliver is satisfied period. Even after obtaining exactly what he wants. And that is what makes Oliver a fascinating character.
