Day 21: The OPC
So we were very strongly encouraged to join some clubs while we were here. I wound up being most interested in the Outdoor Pursuits and the Poker clubs. The poker club has weekly tournaments, but I haven't been to one yet because I missed the e-mail. The outdoor pursuits club organizes stuff like hikes, cave crawls, orienteering, over night hikes and lots of fun stuff. Tonight we had a a meeting for the outdoor pursuits club (The OPC) where some events were discussed, but, more importantly, there was free food and a free bus into town.
So if there is ever a free bus into town you can bet your bottom dollar that everyone and their mums will be there. I have never seen a bus this crowded. People were crammed on that bus like sardines. Well eventually we got everyone in and got into town, where the majority of the folks went to a pub called Flannery's.
I had been to Flannery's before because of their great whiskey selection. Now the line was insane and the pub was so crowded you could hardly walk. So, me and my mates went to a quieter pub. It was called Costello's and we didn't know that there was supposed to be a UV party there that night, so we ran into lots of people covered in paint. Anyway, it was fun, I bantered with some American friends including one who claimed to have met the pope.
I ran into a few other friends after we left Costello's, we split a cab home and I got an early night. Also it's raining for the first time since I've arrived in Limerick.
Oh yeah, so here with their classes they have what the call lectures, but they also have what they call tutorials. I had my first tutorial this week and it was for calculus, where we basically just went over the problems we had been given over the week. So if you're having trouble in some sort of mathematics course and you can't find anyone to help you, just wait for the tutorial.
