I agree with you that call-outs are an extreme measure that should only be used in extreme situations, and that being uncomfortable with someone doesn’t justify publicly calling them out. That’s why I have only posted one call-out in my years on Tumblr, about a young adult who had committed statutory rape against a teen and continued to bully them online.
Eny has personally and directly hurt many people in multiple fandoms. He has shown a sweet and pitiful face to many people over the course of years, including me, which is the face you’re seeing now, but it’s always ended in betrayal. [see the firsthand account of @MaxDiscordance on Twitter]
You are an adult, who you consort with is your decision; but I am sincerely concerned for the well-being of minors in fandom that Eny choses to interact with, because of his abundantly-documented irresponsible and manipulative behavior.
And I am concerned for Eny as well. In his apology video he said he’s “addicted” to getting attention on the internet. Quote, emphasis mine. “I can't stop looking myself up, looking for people, anyone, talking about me. _It's not making things any better by doing that._” When social internet use is a self-admittedly self-destructive addiction, it’s not time to seek out enablers and fandoms full of minors to use as an emotional crutch – it’s time to take therapy seriously and focus on getting healthy in the real world.
Eny’s harmful behavior goes far beyond pro/anti-ship discourse. It’s about persistent bullying, lying, and manipulation. It’s hypocritical for him to claim that people who have been hurt by him are unfair to alert others to his behavior, and that a caution against call-outs is posted on his behalf, given that he bullied an anti for months when all they had done was privately let others in the fandom know about his pro-ship account (not to mention publicly gossiping and suggesting they were secretly pro-ship, when the truth is that they had been manipulated into producing NSFW content by an abusive adult years in the past... in other words, Eny publicly dragged and shamed someone for basically the same circumstance he now claims should excuse him from any culpability). I tried my best to dissuade Eny from this cruelty towards a real person (he publicly tweeted a fantasy that they would die a grisly death... after telling me multiple times he would stop bothering them). I did it privately and supportively because at that time I honestly believed he wanted to do better, but he just simpered and lied to my face. Since claiming to have left pro-ship circles, Eny’s been posting call-outs himself.
A particular call-out he posted against a member of Object Show Fandom contained not just relevant concerns about treatment of characters voiced by minors, but sex-related DM chats Eny had participated in, thereby exposing minors who saw the call-out to gore and scat NSFW.
I am also concerned that Eny apparently continues to protect the identity of his groomer. The whole time I was interacting with him (timeline in this document), I didn’t hear that he was actively being abused. I assumed his abuse had been in early childhood, by an adoptive or step-parent, because that was the type of ‘ships he promoted on Twitter. I turned a blind eye to his pro-ship content as long as he didn’t bring any of it into my (18+) server, because he said it was for coping, and I hoped he’d get healthier being in a supportive environment without pro-ship content and without heavy use of call-outs. If he had said he was being victimized in the present, I believe many – on both sides of the shipping discourse – would have offered him support and encouragement to break free. It horrifies me to think that a person who could manipulate a 13-to-17-year-old into reveling in gore, porn, talk of incest and child molestation, and sharing underage nudes of himself with unsuspecting and unconsenting adults, is still roaming around the internet unidentified and able to victimize more minors.
Finally – a note on why I keep on mentioning the safety of minors. Eny may try to retort that he’s only 18 while I’m twice that age. May I suggest that documented careless behavior around minors is a bigger red flag that mere chronological age. Here’s how I reacted the time I heard that a minor said they were uncomfortable with my presence in a fandom space (this was in Eny’s Voxman server; Eny is the mod here) vs. how Eny has reacted when it was suggested their behavior posed harm to minors.
So, @mephoipad … I’m not going to barge into the DMs of a person much younger than me. But, my Discord is Nazanin#0889
My DMs are open here and on Discord for anybody who has questions. Or Twitter, for that matter. To any minor reading this – I suggest you find a trusted adult in the fandom to approach me if you have questions you’d like to ask. Stay safe, everyone.
