Just why such an antiquated word bubbled into his mind at that moment was lost on him but he couldn't help but find it ironic, or at least morbidly fitting. If anything remained of him after Reyes was done with him, he supposed his final act would be carved into his bones like the great whales, a last act of defiance from a dying creature scrawled across glistening bone, as he plunged his knife into his own chest.

So in your second fic of the ggabb verse when gabe helps jack breathe is got me thinking what if gabe came across jack struggling to breathe but he was awake? Would he still just be lime fuck it and jump into his lungs or just offer support or?
Oh he’d probably definitely goop on in there and fix the problem. Jack won’t ask him to help because he’s a stubborn fuck and Gabe isn’t about to let old man Time take Jack out from under him like that
The loud, sickening crack of his bones breaking drowned out the wet thud of the other man's body hitting the ground beside him, pain, hot and crackling, consuming his lower body in a burning rush. His visor shattered with a burst of sparks when his head slammed against the dirty floor, his vision blinking out and leaving him completely blind, the communicator crushed and hissing before it to gave out with a dying whine. His lungs didn't even give him the air enough to scream. Blood filled his mouth, gurgling as he tried in vain to force words past his lips. Gabe, Gabe I'm down here, please don't— The other man started to scream.

Blood dripped into his eye from the deep, crushing wound that cut diagonally across his face, the omnic's tail having no doubt smashed bone and broken his nose when it slammed him against the transport. Gabe's vision was blurry and swam when he tried to lift his head, bruising turning the skin around his eyes dark and swollen, and the painful throbbing inside his skull couldn't be a good sign.
The air was hot and reeked of fresh machinery, heavy in his lungs and leaving the thick, acrid taste of metal coating his tongue. Clearly he wasn’t at the Birkenkopf rallypoint anymore; it’d probably dragged him back into the Omnium. Half-congealed blood that refused to dry in the humidity oozed sluggishly out of his nose, his breath rattling and wet as he tried to fill his lungs, the familiar push of broken ribs lancing hot pain through his torso. His thoughts were muddled, pain-addled, his brain filled with cottony haze until the attack came back in sharp, crackling clarity.
The omnic monstrosity.
It'd set a trap.
The Omnium floor under him was unexpectedly soft, squishy as he pressed his arms underneath him to try and prop himself up. The pain of moving nearly knocked the breath out of him, blood and saliva dripping from the corner of his mouth as he struggled not to scream, unfocused eyes watching it drip down to the faintly glowing peach-red floor. Something stood out in the periphery of his vision, a dark, clashing shade against the uniform red and black and silver. His bloodshot eyes cut over to it, trying to make out any identifying marks; a crumpled form, lifeless and still, made of tattered blue fabric stained dark with dried blood.
His heart stopped.
Jack's coat.
The silver pillars framing it suddenly swayed, what he thought were merely support columns were sporting long, thick claws that splayed out against the uneven surface, leading up to a bulky chest. Sickly yellow-green mesh that hung loose beneath a thick neck drew his eyes up, up, until the glittering optics of the omnic met with his own, the luminescent golden liquid dripping, shimmering and bright, from its grinning blood-smeared jaws as though it had consumed the sun.
It might as well have.
A very brief snippet of fic3 in the Golden Grain and Bird Bone series below the cut. You guys have been waiting months for it so have a little taste as I continue to plug away. The fic will be longer than my other ones, with longer chapters, so the delay between chapters might be more than the other fics but I hope you understand and enjoy it just the same!
Something in his bones seemed to tug him along impatiently towards the sunny outcrop of rocks that he and Gabe had unofficially claimed as their sunning spot, and as soon as he stepped out into the fresh sea-laden air he spotted him splayed out languidly on the smooth, weather-worn rock. He had to swallow the chuckle that threatened to break the silence, the sight of him draped so uncaringly made all the more hilarious by the fact he was in his full battle attire, having constructed it before their appointment with Angela to ensure he'd be rested and ready to go by the time they landed in Eichenwald. His form was starting to fray at the edges, black tendrils creeping over the sand and dirt like tentative roots, likely sensing that he'd drawn close and seeking his body to anchor to.
"You sure look comfortable, Reyes." Jack said flatly, the mask hiding the smirk he couldn't help but make. Reaper growled at him, low and rumbling like a crocodile, but made no move to get up or even lift his head to glare at him. It was a bit easy to forget just how formidable an opponent Gabe could be when he was face down and motionless in a patch of sun, a few white flowers bobbing in the sea breeze around his shoulders. When he moved to sit down next to him did he push himself up, gesturing for Jack to sit in front of him even though he needed no reminding of where he was to be. After a week the daily ritual had been ingrained in him; sit in front, support him, and let him soak up as much light as possible. It was an unspoken understanding between them, a few peaceful hours of dropped guards and raw vulnerability, where all the conflict and bitterness of the past was briefly, blissfully, forgotten.
So. I’ve got an idea for a second fic series.
Pre-ovw, during the omnic crisis. I didn’t spend all of my formative years nurtured in a fandom that specializes in technohorror to let that go to waste. I’m pretty sure a God Program would be delighted to get its claws on a SEP grad and push them and push them to see all their limits to better understand how to kill them
