Emotive - Meaning fun, unique, experimental, interesting
What makes an emotive dining experience?
Emotive does not always mean complex, it can be refereed to objects of simplicity. Many of the most emotive objects in my home kitchen are simple in design but have flare in terms of colour and atheistic.
We can bring flavor into the kitchen through not only the food we cook with but with the utensils that we use. In my home the kitchen is shining with personality, from the beautifully crafted china tea cups to the old school neon orange bread container or the finely crafted ceramic cookie pot. There is an abundance of creativity brimming inside of my homes kitchen space and I find that this colorful environment helps strengthen the overall dining experience by making the kitchen feel unique and personal.
However, if we take a step back from the visual side of the dining experience and consider the physical aspect, then the next question would be what does an emotive dining experience feel like?
When I am eating or cooking I want to be in an environment that is relaxing and enjoyable. Whether it is the start or end of the day I want to let go of whatever is on my mind and simply enjoy the space that I am in. Objects such as a soft chair, a dimly lit warm light or a small set of tea cups and pot really help set that comforting mood. Some people want efficiency inside of the kitchen and I can understand this based on the personal needs of different people, however in my own case I aim for comfort as cooking and eating is a part of my day that is aimed at enjoyment.Â
How do you facilitate a good experience in others?
To facilitate a good experience in others it is important to first know who you are trying to fabricate an experience for and what their needs are. By gaining an understanding of the clients needs it then becomes possible to formulate a response to their needs. For instance if I were to create an object that is aimed at creating a good experience for a chef I would first need to know what sort of things the chef enjoys using in the kitchen and what sort of problems they encounter whilst cooking. Through this research I would be able to create an object that fits their requirements.
In a general sense I believe a good experience is often facilitated when the people having the experience are enjoying themselves and finding approachable solutions to any problems that they are faced with in or out of the kitchen.
I cook a lot of boiled eggs as I find them to be an easy meal that is full of nutrition. However, since I have moved to Wellington I have been without a cup to put my eggs in which has made the process of breaking open the shell and eating out of the egg a lot more tedious than it has been in the past. For this course I want to solve this problem by creating a stylish egg cup that will be able to help me have a more fluid and enjoyable experience in the mornings.
