As the more long lived of the races, has Jes’champe changed in personality, temperament distinctly from who he was as a younger man? And do you believe this is a character that will continue to evolve in personality, or are they at their current peak of the identifying ego?
Jes’champe has undergone countless changes over his long life. In his youth, he was straightforward and honest, unafraid to speak his mind. Control was never something he craved, until the world took it from him.
After his first wife died, Jes withdrew from life entirely. He became quiet, detached, and driven only by duty. For over a hundred years, he devoted himself solely to helping his father in politics, moving like a shadow behind the scenes, without ambition or desire of his own.
Then came his second wife, and with her, an entirely different set of problems. She was sharp, bold, and unafraid to challenge him. On the day of their arranged marriage, she told him he needed to become a man, not a puppet. Her words struck deep. For years afterward, Jes’champe blamed himself for her infidelity, convinced he had failed to be the man she demanded.
To prove his worth, he threw himself into mastering his magic, refining it with an almost obsessive focus. But over time, Jes realized that no amount of power would ever make him “worthy” in her eyes, because she would never belong to just one person. So, he turned his magic toward something darker. Using his finely tuned portal abilities, he made sure things went wrong for her lovers, small, quiet acts of revenge that only he would ever know about.
Now, more than a thousand years since their divorce, Jes is a man who must have control over every aspect of his world. Wealthy, powerful, and accustomed to getting his way, he sees no reason not to. He chooses the women he brings to social events with care; each must have something unique about her. Once chosen, he orchestrates everything, her wardrobe, accessories, makeup, hairstyle, even her lingerie, if he intends the night to end with her wearing it, sometimes he chooses that he wants her dress to drop to the floor to just admire her beauty. In public, he plays the part of the charming gentleman, never revealing the strings he pulls behind the scenes, unless someone embarrasses him. Then, the control becomes necessary, but he wields it in a way as to not embarrass himself.
It’s likely he will one day meet his end through his assassin work, or perhaps he’ll simply grow weary of it. And tired of always being the one in command. And yet, with a life as long as his, there’s always time for change. Maybe, if the right woman came along, he might even allow himself to fall in love again.
Thank you for the question, @safrona-shadowsun owed you this one for too long too.
