These Canadian 1OAs are just built different. Macklin Celebrini has just signed a Contract Extension to come into effect for the 27-28 season.
$18.8mil x 5 years is projected to make him the highest paid player in the NHL once the Contract becomes active, and with that amount he is still leaving some money in the coffers for the San Jose Sharks to maintain Cap flexibility.
Celebrini is yet to post anything to his own socials, but Sharksmin have been very vocal about the Organisation’s excitement for this Extension. As has Will Smith, who shared the second image above on his Instagram story.
Yes, this deal is significantly more than Connor Bedard took, but Celebrini and the Sharks also have less to continue building. They proved this past season that they have found their stride, only just missing out on the playoffs. Chicago are still a step behind in this regard. But, with trades and new Contracts for both Organisations over the Summer so far, we’ll just have to wait and see how teams perform this coming season.
