I Wish Period Dramas Came With Warnings
Nothing big, mind. Just small, educational snippets about how the industry works.
Something along the lines of "Contracts are for three years. Characters will be written out early if the plot calls for it or unforeseen necessity arises. If an actor decides not to renew their contract in the third season, it does not matter what plot development or foreshadowing they've had until that point, they will be written out. We can not force actors to stay on against their will. That is illegal. Terribly sorry."
As it is, given that people are still screaming about the Downton season three contract non-renewals, I am not looking forward to Gilded Age fandom ten years in the future.
I mean, yes, I get that it's upsetting. I do. I just get so very tired of listening to it. I've been hearing this song since 2017.
...I will never be as tired of this as I am of people asking us why we don't use the electric cart pushing things at work though...
