nth term
As I have learnt there are two types of nth term, Constant Difference Sequences and Changing Difference Sequences.
Constant Difference Sequences as the name suggests, is when the difference between terms is always the same. For example, 1, 4, 7, 10, ... has a difference which is always 3.
So how do you find the formula for the 'nth' term? Well, the three times table has the formula '3n'. 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, ... 1, 4, 7, 10, ... and the terms in this sequence are two less than the terms in the three times table so the formula is '3n - 2'.
Changing Difference Sequences are much more difficult and I will edit this post once I feel confident I understand the formula.
I have spent so long on this and I still can't get my head around this formula;
nth term = a + (n - 1)d + ½(n - 1)(n - 2)c
I did discover that a reasonable understanding of Algebra helps. Unfortunately I have no knowledge of Algebra so I plan to learn this next and come back to this.
