In September 1994, one of the worst maritime disasters in European history occurred in the Baltic Sea: M/S Estonia sank in just 30 minutes, taking 852 people with it. The official cause: the bow visor detached, allowing water to rush onto the car deck.

But nearly three decades later, one question echoes louder than ever:

Why are authorities still preventing a new investigation of the wreck?

Timeline of the Disaster – Estonia Sinks in Minutes

00:55 – A metallic sound is heard from the ship’s bow, indicating damage to the bow visor’s locking mechanism.

01:00 – The bow visor detaches completely and falls into the sea, triggering the ramp’s locking system to open.

01:15 – Water begins pouring onto the car deck, causing the ship to list to starboard.

01:20 – The ship’s main engines shut down due to the list interrupting oil flow.

01:30 – The vessel is tilted approximately 60 degrees, and flooding spreads rapidly.

01:50 – The ship disappears from radar and sinks completely to a depth of about 80 meters.

A Wreck Protected from the Truth

The Estonia lies at a depth of 80 meters and no one is allowed to approach it. An international agreement between Finland, Sweden, and Estonia declared the site a protected grave, making it off-limits without special permission. But this is not just about honoring the dead it is a legally enforced ban on investigation.

And that raises suspicion: What was on board that must never be revealed?

The Mystery Hole – Proof of a Cover-up?

In 2020, a Swedish documentary Estonia – The Discovery That Changes Everything revealed a shocking detail: a large, inward-bent hole on the starboard side of the ship never mentioned in the official 1997 report.

The origin of the hole remains unexplained and authorities show little interest in finding out.

Experts have estimated that creating such a hole would require more than 600 tons of force. It could not have resulted from the bow visor’s detachment. It is not consistent with a simple seabed impact.

The hole points to external contact a collision, or possibly an explosion.

Secret Cargo – Was Estonia a Military Transport?

In 2004, it was revealed that Estonia had been carrying classified military technology to Sweden. At the time, there was no official disclosure and the cargo was never considered in the investigation.

If a civilian passenger ferry was used as a front for a military operation, could someone have wanted to stop it? Could the ship have been targeted? Why was the existence of the cargo concealed?

Submarine Collision – A Truth Too Inconvenient?

Several witnesses described a suspicious noise, like metal scraping through ice. Survivor Carl Eric Reintamm reported seeing “a white object, several meters long” in the water. Authorities never investigated this sighting they didn’t even try.

Former Estonian prosecutor Margus Kurm has publicly suggested that Estonia collided with a submarine. If that is true, it could have been a state-level operation carried out by another nation or alliance. Is the official explanation simply a cover story?

Why Is a New Investigation Blocked?

A simple question: If the official story is accurate, why fear a new investigation?

Why was the international agreement passed so quickly? Why can’t even a robotic camera be sent to the wreck without special authorization? Why are experts still denied full access to analyze the hull damage?

If the justification is respect for the dead Why is this standard not applied to other maritime tragedies?

Johtopäätös: Salaliitto vai salattu rikos?

Estonian tapauksessa salaliittoteoriat eivät ole villiä mielikuvitusta ne ovat seurausta tiedon pimittämisestä.

So, I've recently went back to cross stitch after what feels like aeons of not touching the needle and decided to start a new project.

I found a fun website that figures out the pattern, canva size and thread colours for you. It's awesome really. The only little problem was the fact that thread was in DMC numbering.

You see, my mom used to also be obsessed over cross stitch and she has an absolute hoard of thread to this day. But yup, all of it is Ariadna brand.

So I do the only thing a broke uni student with her mom's treasure wasting away would do - seek the conversion chart.

And oh boy did I find it...

That wasn't even the beginning. Turns out that somewhere in our timeline Ariadna changed their numbering code - which means that I had to find the colors in the newer numbering and then, again, convert it to the older ones.

Yay, I did it!

Except I didn't :(

Who would have known that DMC has a lot wider colour pallette to choose from? In the end I was left with a few colours I had to find manually. Which leads me to my main point:

The number 404

I found that little guy and it instantly caught my eye. It looks a lot older than even its previously mentioned old-numbered cousins, such as my wonderful baby, 690:

But back to 404

For my project I needed quite a few browns so I jumped right into the rabbit hole of finding its new-numbered counterpart and figuring out if it fits colours around it.

Or I would, if it existed.

This is an "older-newer number" chart. It's weird I won't say it isn't. 403/405 is not the only jump that's on there (506/508); Ariadna seems to especially not like sevens.

But what makes 507 and 404 different is that you won't find a 507 thread but you will find a brown 404. Or green 404. Or blue 404. Beige 404, rusty 404, rose 404.

But literally everything they do has a meaning? Being naked so that they dont have anything that would make you hear them coming. The way they stalk you without usually being too much of a threat, theyre making sure youre going the right way. And god the way they talk is amazing. So fun. So unexpected. They sound like the most lucid people in there, like the only self aware ones. And they make jokes! (Or are at least sarcastic. Dont think any other variant is capable of sarcasm)
